My "field" is not like the Army's "field" as I was U. S. Coast Guard. On a Coast Guard cutter underway one time I had a mid-watch in the engine room. The cooks are supposed to feed us before we go on this particular watch as one is sleeping after the work day to ready for the watch. Normally it's leftovers from the dinner meal, but in this case they ran out. They also didn't plan ahead so they didn't have anything available for the watchstanders. They took frozen hot dogs and deep fried them; burnt on the outside, still frozen on the inside..... I came down on the Chief (E-7) in charge of the galley the next day. He didn't care....which was the whole problem to begin with....

Every one, but dehydrated pork/beef patties top the list with tuna casserole a VERY close second.

Those "patties" wouldn't get totally soft even if you soaked them in water tapped from a nuclear reactor.

During a NATO deployment to Norway. The chicken ala king was frozen solid and I had to let it thaw in my mouth! No flame, no heat -- frozen solid.

I had spaghetti one time. The cooks boiled wheat noodles so long they congealed in a sticky, gray, tasteless mass. I tried mixing everything else with it to eat it without the gross texture. I mixed my salad with ranch dressing and when that didn't work I dumped some kool-aid. There was no saving it. I refused to sacrifice my almost cake slice so that was all I had
