Zonk- Unofficial army command. Typically used during PT (physical training) formation as a way of dismissing a unit from duty. After the command of “Zonk!!” is given the entire unit runs off screaming and shouting to their barracks rooms or cars.

I recall my favorite. We just started what we were led to believe a 5-mile run in formation. We just were running by the barracks and all of a sudden a "Zonk!" rang out. It was utter chaos as we ran off in all directions. I will say they were few and far between but they were priceless.

The video isn't of my unit but it shows what a "Zonk" is.

But you're old school?! I haven't heard Zonk since the 90's. It's another term for "From Front To Rear....Disappear!"

SFC Mark Merino Nope, do not recall from front to rear disappear either. Definitely not while doing PT, that stopped whenever the Gunny's cigar finally extinguished....
And then my only time on Army bases for any length was Ft McClellan a few times for schools, in late 80s and early 90s, but they were joint schools so maybe it was thought that nobody else would know what a zonk was, and Ft Benning, but that was all Marines, using ranges. then Ft Dix after 9-11 in 02 and 03, but that was AF running show, with Army MPs working alongside, so AF likely had no idea they could call a zonk and go have a beer?
I think it is funny. Is this something that was taught in basic, or is it something that was sort of legend, that got passed on?

If you want I can have a formation for you and act as your commander and call zonk.

CPT (Join to see) - Rather just not have a formation.
