It's something that I've been thinking about and have my own idea about, but just to see it from different, more experienced eyes, what is your take on it?

Capt (Join to see) - It's not physically obtaining it, but as you said, it is the endless pursuit of it. I think that's why a Christian who is a soldier has a deeper understanding of "staying the course." God bless you Captain, for pointing out something which I neglected to.

There really is no perfect soldier. To paraphrase Admiral Halsey, there are only normal men that do extraordinary jobs when they have to. Always maintaining mission focus is about the closest that a soldier can come to achieving perfection. We're all human and therefore imperfect.

I took it that the question was referencing those of us mortals who possess a basic sin nature. Absolutely, Jesus is the perfect one... 100% God/100 % man. None other can make such a claim!!!

Perfect soldier in my eyes is one who does his or her best to live life by the Army Values and Worrier Ethos. A soldier that never gives up reguadless the number of times he or she fails, the soldiers hear is important. A soldier that remains professional at all times and not only does his or her job but also steps up and gives a helping hand to peers. The perfect soldier continues to increase his or her knowledge and progress in his or her career.

All you can ask is that the soldiers working with you give their best effort every day, and continue to improve their skills and leadership ability. The rest should take care of itself.

That's subjective, a good person who upholds the Army Values, is punctual, internally motavited, contionously learning(and retaining!), and wants to be at the workplace- or at least strives to do all that.

First and foremost, he/she is a soldier who never stops striving for perfection, even with the knowledge he/she will never obtain it.

They never believe that they are any more important to the soldier next to them, but always believe that their performance is essential to the success of the mission.

They will follow lawful orders without reservation or complaint.

They will reside themselves to being a follower of leaders until that is perfected, and then begin to think about being a leader of followers.

They are always early; never on time or late.

The word "excuse" is not in their vocabulary; you either do what you are supposed to be or you don't.

Learn these phrases:

"I did not complete my task. I accept responsibility and will ensure it never happens again."

You see, when it's all said and done as far as apologies and excuses go, you still just failed to complete a task. An apology many times is demonstrated instead of spoken, and answers like these show that you accept the blame and that you know there is a change to be made.

Finally, PV2 Hector Rodriguez, there is not a perfect soldiers. There are bad soldiers, soldiers, and great soldiers. Asking a question like this means you seek to be in the "great" category.

Here's the hint: even though great soldiers realize there will never be a "perfect" soldier, it doesn't stop them from trying.

Perfect Soldier: no such a thing! However, the descriptions provided by my fellow RP members is what every Soldier and/or service member should strive for. That is what a Professional Soldier does!

For me SGT, it mostly had to do with character traits. It sounds silly, but if you look at Cpt. America and take how he is as a person, THAT's how a "perfect" soldier should be: able to do whats necessary of them, follows lawful orders, humble and isn't proud of their rank or position, always willing to lend a hand, both accomplishes the task given to him while being caring and motivating to the men under his command. A "perfect" soldier, to me, is just someone who understands that they aren't any bigger or smaller than the man to their left or right and are willing and able to be positive and helpful to their comrades and the mission.

PV2 (Join to see) - You have put together an excellent road map to the pursuit of of something that can never be obtained, unless you spend your entire military career pursuing it.

I would encourage you to do so. No matter how intense the battle, no matter how ridiculous the mission, perform equally under both situations.

Always remember, you do not have to hold rank to be a leader, some of the best leaders got their start being the person who just builds and holds morale.

Finally, and I can't stress this enough, let those same qualities apply to you whether in uniform or not. The military needs more than good soldiers, it needs good men who are willing to strive to be great men, who are willing to apply that to their struggle to become a great soldier.

A great soldier will traditionally strive to be a great man (in character and reputation, not in self-perception or accomplishments), and a great man should strive to be a great soldier.

Each of these compliment each other and will not only help you to obtain the goals which you have outlined (which I completely agree with), and as long as you refuse to accept you are successful at each of these, and you keep striving for them, then you will always be remembered as, at the very least, a great example of a great soldier.

Drive on Rodriguez, your head appears to be in the right place.

A perfect soldier betters himself by gaining knowledge and experience and the. Passes that on to their peers, subordinates and even his superiors.

PV2 (Join to see) Good question! No one will ever be perfect. A good service man or woman will learn from their mistakes, and not make the same mistake twice. Maintain what you are good at and work on your weaknesses. An ideal soldier is disciplined, wants to earn leadership roles, and wants to support his fellow soldiers as a team player. Become a go to person regarding your MOS knowledge. Be a planner, and plan out your life, as to what you want to accomplish down the road. Best of luck.
