My favorite badge is my seven level aircraft maintence badge. It showed I achieved the senior level (7) in experience and qualification. My favorite patch was from the 1st Special Operations Wing. It showed 5he regular AF types that I was part of the USAF ELITE and we would go Any Place, Any Time.

My favorite is the first badge I earned - the original Air Assault Badge. It was only awarded during the 11th Air Assault tests 1963-65, so few folks have ever even seen one.

There are my individual awards and patches yet the Valorous Unit Award we earned stands taller than the rest of my others. Whether you're a member of a large conventional or a unconventional team, this award recognizes your synergistic affect against an armed enemy.
"The Valorous Unit Award may be awarded to units of the Armed Forces of the United States for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy of the United States; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or, while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party. It may only be awarded for actions that occurred on or after August 3, 1963. The degree of heroism required is comparable to that which would warrant award of the Silver Star to an individual. Only on rare occasions will a unit larger than a battalion qualify for this award.
