Clash of Clans. There...I said it. Wow. That was liberating. First step is admitting you have a problem.

LTC Robert Halvorson you're not alone in the game playing, Sir. Could be worse....

I have the geeky passion of completing crossword puzzles and playing Go on my iPhone. LOL

CPT Chris Loomis, at least your games can be grouped into a more intelligent category which stimulates your brain.

Clash of clans, while habit forming, barely qualifies as a game. More like a Skinner box experiment.

Would I be sucking up too much if I said RallyPoint?

Additionally, one of my favorites is the Bible app. Not only can you read the Bible at your leisure, but they also have many reading plans to guide you through various topics in the Bible. It's called the YouVersion Bible, at http://www.bible.com.

I like the bible app too even though I'm not terribly religious. It's great to reference when people quote scripture for their arguments. It's also great for highlighting the differences in translations for said quotations.

Shazam ... I am a music nut. I love being able to hear a song I like, whether it is in a car, restaurant, mall, plane or wherever, click on the Shazam app and have it identify the song and artist and "tag" it for me so that I can download it from iTunes, if I want. It also can provide the lyrics, concert schedule, discography, etc. Great free app or low cost upgrade.

I used to keep Shazam on my front page of apps, but two things made me delete it. First, I got tired of it constantly displaying a notification for "news," and second Siri has been updated to do the exact same thing as Shazam. All I have to do is ask "what song is this?" and Siri tells me. No more annoying notifications and frees up a slot on my front page.

You can turn off the notifications in "Settings"

Easier to click on the app than to ask Siri, plus there are many more features that Shazam has (as explained in my original comments).

I am certainly not trying push or sell Shazam to anyone. I like it a lot and the issues you raised with it are easily remedied, giving you much more than Siri provides.

I get what you're saying sir, but all I ever used Shazam for was to identify music. All the other extraneous features never got any use out of me. Also, you're right about going into the settings, but I should have clarified. For me all that did was disable it from giving me a notification on my lock screen, but did not prevent that app icon itself from showing it had unread notifications. I trivial issue granted, but it annoyed me.

What is your favorite smart phone app?

Assuming we discount no brainers like pretty much every social media app (Facebook, Twitter, RallyPoint) then one of my favorite apps is Circa. It's basically a high speed news aggregator app, but my favorite part about it is that it condenses a news story down to the bare essentials which inherently cuts out a lot of bias. Anyone who follows news stories regularly knows how hard it can be to find an unbiased news source and this app is the closest I've found.

Once I liberated my life by deleting my facebook account, I suppose the only app I really checked regularly was the Weather Channel.

RallyPoint, Waze, iHeartRadio, Couch-to-5K, MyFitnessPal, and Starbucks. In that order. Though I must say the RP app is a little buggy on my iPhone. A number of good recommendations on here. Thank you everyone!

I'll take buggy over broken any day. It's only within the past month or so that the Rallypoint app did more than just show me a white screen. Considering how much growth this website as a whole has had since it launched, and the improvements made to the app incrementally, I have faith that the bugs will get ironed out.
