What is your opinion concerning states that institute a lottery for the purpose of encouraging citizens to take the COVID-19 vaccination?

Here in North Carolina, a teacher won one million dollars and a student won over two-hundred thousand dollars, as a scholarship for college.

Saying jokingly.............
Not getting the vaccine is also playing another kind of "lottery".

PO3 Phyllis Maynard - The injections were knocking folks on their ass, and between my spouse and I we both didn't want to get hammered at the same time. I stay at home, and wasn't in a need of getting it, and then she had her's and didn't get slammed with adverse effects.
Then the USAR said they would pay us for the 1/2 day do get it done, so I figured why the hell not.
I never felt it was going to be anything nearly even close to as bad as getting all poked and prodded when I deployed. I knew if I dragged my feet long enough the USAR would either do it for me at a battle assembly or they would include it in the heath readiness process I can get paid and retirement points for.

the only reason I got it was my wife who is an RN. "Happy wife, happy life." I got mine at the VA (Moderna) and the first one gave me a 3-week headache - nasty for a couple of days; nagging for the rest of the time. The second shot, they told me to go home, take a Tylenol and relax. I did and have NO adverse affects at all.
The wife got hers a month later when they approved her age group. NO adverse affects at all.

Cap, I agree with you it is a different kind of lottery. It appears, in Missouri, we have to many people playing it and winning eternal trips. I'd much rather give them a chance to win money that attend their departure. To those who are complaining about Tax Money, let me see the amount spent on hospitalization vs the lottery. I would say the hospitalization is more costly. I think it is called MedicAID. That is a big chunk of tax money also. Get a shot and your name goes into a drawing and ONE person wins [hopefully, 10,000+ got the shot and a chance to win].

It makes me think the company making the vaccine is marketing this kind of money to sell the vaccine. I would be shocked if a state put that kind of money up to get people to get the vaccine and am pretty certain there is a third party hiding in the shadows.

MAJ Byron Oyler I certainly believe this. This was on the local news. I remember thinking how is the state able to institute a lottery and continue adding people even when they take the second shot.

Someone for sure did the cost benefit analysis, and as you point out sir, it wasn't the state.

Lot of cynicism here. It doesn't take a forensic accountant to see that paying out $1M to a half-dozen winners is far less expensive than expanding medical facilities to football stadiums and convention centers, not to mention the human costs in lives lost and first responders overwhelmed. But a good conspiracy theory is usually more entertaining than common sense.

Sgt Dennis Doty - It is not a conspiracy theory to see that people are not taking the. vaccine and that Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J are raking in money over this when people take it. Viruses, especially coronavirus that has been around for decades have expected patterns and this one has largely ran its course. We are not going to see expansion of medical facilities and the majority of healthcare workers were not provided anymore pay, in fact quite a few were let go.
