What Islam is and isn't! What are your thoughts?

I believe that all religions have good people and bad people, this is true through history of every religion including Christianity. I don't believe groups like ISIS or the Taliban follow islam as Mohammad would want it to be followed. Talking a college course in world religions and studying Islam, I've very convinced that the people in these groups are taking a piece of the Quran and twisting it to their personal version of it.
I guess I find it disturbing that many people feel all muslims should be killed off. i understand why there is this great hatred especially among those who have been to the MIddle East, I don't mean I know how they feel(since I was never there) but I can see why they do. Still it's always the radicals that get the attention not the peaceful people.
I think alot of the issues in the middle east really have to do with a poor economic situation for the common people, they live lifes that have no hope, no real money and they have nothing else but turn to believe in something, which happens to be sold by these horrid radicals. For those who have seen Generation Kill it goes back to the whole "chicks in bikini's" scene.
It's too bad that the worst of the worst are the ones that make the news.

I think this is what characterizes fundamentalist thought.
Fundamentalist have very low threshold of tolerance in what is acceptable in other people.
The problem with fundamentalist thought is you can't accept the concept of any of your doctrine might be false because if any can be false, than all can be false. Add to this the concept that anyone who does not believe in your doctrine is a heretic or an infidel or whatever and it is your sacred duty to convert or die.
The folks in the middle east have been religiously split (Shia / Sunni) since the death of the prophet. As far as they are concerned they are fighting for the fundamental truth of their religion.

Heh. When it comes to Shia, you have to be specific: do you mean the Twelvers (such as in Iran), or the Fivers or the Seveners? There are smaller sects.
Then we have the Ahmadiyya, the several Sufi traditions (especially the Naqshbandi), and some make-it-up-as-you-go versions.
If there is anything Islam is not, that would be monolithic.
Then again, in this area of the country, I can locate no fewer than three Anglican groups, all of which are the true heirs of the Catholic Faith in England. Or some such.
I remember fondly a word from a Dutch Reformed pastor in Holland, Michigan when we lived there some decades back. He said, as best I can recall, that
"The pattern around here is different from a lot of places in America. Go to a larger community and you will find four Baptist churches, one Episcopal, one Roman Catholic, two Lutheran, two Methodist and sixty-seven Dutch Reformed churches."
Nobody has a lock on sectarian dogmatism. When I was the choir director in a Syrian-Antiochian Orthodox church, one of the members remarked
"Give me two Greeks and one clock, and I will give you at least four firm opinions on what time it is."

The order to kill, maim, behead, rape, crucify, cut the feet and hands on opposite sides of the infidel date back to 1400 years ago. Those orders are being printed by the millions in each fresh koran coming off the press. These are the same verses that have been gracing the pages of this benevolent peaceful koran as PC would have it. Here are some samples:
Ishaq:208 Now we bound ourselves to war against all mankind for Allah and His Apostle.
He promised us a reward in Paradise for faithful service. We pledged ourselves

Islam is a religion develop to run as a government, just like back in Dark Age. The different is Christian evolved and Islam stay the same. Islam will need to go through what Christian gone through before it can get better ...
The bad news is ... as of right now, I still haven't see a movement inside Islam to reform itself.
