What kind of web based, veteran aimed service would you like to see created and why?

I have a close friend of mine that once served as one of my medics who is currently going to school right now for IT. He is planning to create a web-based service for veterans but is stuck trying to brain storm what people might need/want and why.

Maybe a Veteran assistance app i.e. Let's say a Veteran in his senior years wants to attend a Division or Ship reunion maybe an app for Veterans help in different cities and towns from airport pick up to assistance getting ready etc? Or an app for knowledge based service officers for different VA claims?

I thought of something similar to your first idea. Something similar to RP but with more of a FB feel to connect old military comrades.

I'd like to see a better MOS/general military skill translator, maybe designed with the input from several veterans in each field.
Why? The current one leave something to be desired.

SGT Joseph Gunderson - Of course. But it can also be used by employers if they want to know any skills an applicant might have overlooked, or want a plain English job description.

There are so many different systems and databases used by the government. How about a website that brings them all together. Think about all the questions veterans ask on RP and envision a website that is sort of a one-stop shop. Links to VA benefits and resources, links to units, links to PTSD resources, links to local veteran organizations, etc. All of these things already exist I'm sure, but they're scattered all over the place. A website that brings them all together might be a good idea. It would be a lot of work though. Not sure if your friend is looking at this as a business opportunity or just being helpful.

Here are a few ideas:
-A good possibility would be for a web service that might streamline VA services. Obviously a partnership with the VA would be required. A one stop shop, would be awesome. As it stands, the Byzantine nature of the VA's setup makes figuring out what services are available to you a chore.
-Another idea would be a link to various veterans groups. This could help with all types of veterans issues.
- A service for families to help with funeral arrangements for veterans, would be nice. Not just getting the military honors, but the entirety of funeral services. This is something my wife's family had to go through with her grandfather.
- A job placement service for veterans could be another option.

All of these sound like great ideas. The first one, I would imagine, would be the most difficult to get started; the VA probably thinks that it knows best and doesn't want (need) outside help (even if every veteran KNOWS that they could use it).

Does your friend want to create a charity group, a business, a social network? What's the end goal?

Ha! Well - some direction would be helpful. Has your friend tried doing a Survey? Maybe you could rewrite this Q as a survey and then download the results? Ask him what his thoughts are to get the individual answers for the survey, ya know?

No one needs any more web based anything

Yes, because everyone has the means available, say, to travel cross country to keep up with those that they served with and what have you... The internet is not some chaotic void of emptiness that seeks to destroy - from your previous comment on one of my responses, perhaps that is how you view it. The internet can be a useful tool when utilized correctly; I mean, look, you're voicing your opinion - albeit a naive one - on the internet right now. Amazing!

In this context I meant there are already an overwhelming number of web based applications.
But given my grumpy mood last night, I can see how you’d think that.
