SPC (Join to see) All branches of the military are special:
The Air Force is special because my father was an Air Force Captain who died when his plane crashed on a training mission
The Army is special because my four uncles served in the Army during WWII.
The Navy is special because Corpsman (doc) are some of the bravest individuals I ever met.
I served in the Marine Corps with special individuals.
I have toured the U.S. Coast Guard vessel Fir, a Buoy Tender ship. I was extremely impressed with everything that this small crew accomplishes. I tip my cap to the Coast Guard, which has a dangerous job that does not get the recognition that they deserve.
I worked with both National Guardsman, and Reservists. These were outstanding men and women
All branches are the best because of the outstanding men and women that serve our nation.

Understood sir. I just want to know why they chose each branch. Some people have loyalties to certain branches, I want to know why.

SPC (Join to see) - I joined the Marine Corps because I felt that the people of South Vietnam deserved our assistance. I knew that joining the Marine Corps would get me to Vietnam, with enough training to survive.

When I started at the Naval Academy, the last thing I wanted was to go into the Marine Corps. By the end of plebe year I was so impressed by the Marine Officers and SNCO's on staff there, that I never again considered anything else.
But I wouldn't do away with any branch. I respect and value them all. Although, I will never admit that in public.

The Corps!
Honor, Courage, Commitment.
A can-do attitude that never quits on the objective.
A brother/sisterhood that no others can compare.
First in, last out!
What others strive and struggle their whole life to achieve!
The chosen sentinels of embassies worldwide!
Guard the Heavenly gates of Heaven!
We are, The United States Marine Corps! OORAH!

It was the one I was in
And that's not a statement about me
It's simply the only Branch I know

That said it's the fool that thanks their branch is solely important and can exist without the support or leadership of other branches
I don't profess to know the history or etymology of the word branch or why it was chosen, but I think it's inappropriate word..as the services are a branch on the Tree which is the whole.

2nd largest air force on the planet, but with greater survivability than the largest, because it's mobile. Second largest nuclear force on the planet, but with vastly larger survivability than the largest. The ability to level entire continents from offshore. The largest guns on the planet. I could go on.

Me being in it.
I think the Marine Corps clearly has the best institutional values and does the best job of instilling them in its members.

To me, it's the camaraderie. Marines take care of their own since there are so few of us when you compare them to the other branches.

This is an easy one for me. As a young man I wanted to be a part of an organization that had as its mission protecting the public on the high seas, (and of course all other waters) The Coast Guard is and will most likely always be, the smallest of services, but with the constant requirement of putting themselves in harms way to save lives and property at sea. It was the fulfillment of my desire to serve and put my faith in God by serving the public in all types of weather conditions. of course there is even more to it that just that. but it was the best way I could put my faith into practice, like putting feet on the gospel. acting out what the scripture demands. Scripture says "greater love hath no man" yes we risk our lives every day to serve not only our country, but our fellow man, and by that action, our God. hope I can hear a loud Amen to that.
