What MOS is the AGR looking for most? I am a drilling reservist (TPU) and an Engineer (12A) First Lieutenant. Should I consider re-classing?

Finish your EN CCC and then go to the HRMQC. Having 42B/H as an additional MOS is very useful in the AGR system.

Thank you, sir. I was told CCC was the place to re-class (is that incorrect?). I am trying to determine whether to do EN, AG, or Logistics CCC. I've been told Logistics is best for career longevity. Not sure how far to invest as an EN. Really appreciate your advice.

I wouldn't disagree with the feedback you've gotten so far. Do you dislike being an EN? Look at AGR announcements and watch the trends. Also, understand why we have full-timers, to handle the full-time requirements that units have, which are mostly sustainment-related. If you're trying to go into the AGR system, it's not a bad idea to take the less-desireable jobs or ones with high turnover. If you went to LCCC and then HRMQC (the two-week transition course requires that you've already graduated from another CCC), I would say that's a pretty hire-able situation. On the Guard side, I'd suggest looking at CSTs. No idea about USAR... Civil Affairs?

MAJ (Join to see) - Thank you very much, sir. I like the esprit de corps of the Engineers, but am hoping to hang in there for another 6-14 years and want to avoid being pigeon-holed (depending on whether I stay TPU or go AGR/AD).

No problem, Lieutenant. Ultimately, you should decide on something you can live with doing for the next 6-14 years that you'll enjoy. Whatever it is, be the best and be your own advocate, and I'm sure you'll be fine. Pigeon-holing may always happen regardless, but you can negate it with good KD assignments.

I was USAR AGR, but converted from AD when I was a senior captain. I had a LT plt ldr and CPT co cdr in my Bn when I had command in '11-13 in WI. Not sure how many slots there are, but USARC control them. You might also try to contact the administrations of the two TECs (412th and 416th). The 412th commands all En units east of the MS river and the 416th all the western units.
As far as ARNG AGR, that is controlled by each state's two-star commanding general.

CPO (Join to see) I got picked up as an AGR as a 1LT Engineer officer. We have a lot of opportunities and positions to be promoted up through LTC. COL of course is harder to get. In recent history it seems like we have a higher promotion rate than other branches. They may have less people promoted than Logistics, but they are larger than us.

Thank you, sir. I am planning to submit my AGR application as a 12A (Hoping to get my PMP certification within the year). Really appreciate your advice.

I can only say that I have heard that there is shortage in logistics, at least for NCOs. I have noticed that most of the officer AGR seem to be in Personnel, but typically BDE level or higher.. Which I believe requires O3/O4

You can take civil Affairs after you've completed your Captain's career course since you need that to be able to qualify for the functional area of civil affairs. It's possible to be a civil Affairs Drilling reservist and be an AGR working for other unit full-time else within the Army Reserve System. There is no civil Affairs in the National Guard

CPO (Join to see) - Your engineer skills will be an asset in Civil Affairs or wherever you may end up in. That skill set is important especially evaluation projects in theater either military or civilian. I had a Navy Engineer(0-4) evaluate % of project completion when paying a civilian contractor on a Civil Affairs project in Afghanistan concerning CERP(Commander's Emergency Response Program) projects.

It may help if you ask the AGR Program yourself. If you'd like to apply for the AGR program, visit the U.S. Army Human Resources Command website and search "AGR", or for Officer/Warrant Officer applicants call [login to see]
