Fort Polk LA (Tiger Land) October 18, 1972 at the age of 20 years old, I was with the last of the draftees although I had enlisted. The draftees gave me and anyone else a hard time, because they didn't want to be in the Army and we had volunteered.

After hearing my Dad voice regrets for not staying in the Navy a few times, I became curious about it. Dad was in during WWII and again for Korea. I remember his stories about his experiences. So, four days after high school graduation, I was standing in my briefs at the Albany (New York) Recruit Processing Station for physical exam. They shipped several of us to the Recruit Training Center at Great Lakes that evening in June of 1961. It did make for a rewarding career after all. Thanks, Dad.
