I am currently stationed at an in-between unit, where a Soldier graduates Basic Training, comes to DLI for a language, then goes to their AIT. The problem is, a Soldiers gets to me from basic training and fails their APFT with 50 points on the event. They have met the standard for Basic Training, but do not meet graduation requirements for AIT. However, the Soldier will not leave my unit for 64 weeks. At what point am I able to counsel and flag the Soldier, and later Chapter them out of the military. It is very clear in AR 600-9 that Soldiers get 180 day grace period for passing H&W standards, but it says nothing about APFT. Has anyone had to deal with this issue, or have any better guidance?

Requirement was APFT BCT 50 points, AIT 60 points. You must give them PT at least 3 times a week, it is you responsability. Check them every week, you must trained them, you are an NCO it is you responsibility. They failed you failed, you should be discharged.

HooAh. They’re fresh newbies right out of Basic it is the NCO’s responsibility to conduct regular PT for those DLI Students/Soldiers. TheArmy already put a lot of money into training these kids for some lame NCO to want to just chapter them out for PT.

SSG Pedro Tapia it is that NCO’s responsibility to ensure they’re doing PT so they pass the APFT while they’re still in training.

PVT (Join to see) that’s when the NCO needs to take charge and put those soldiers on remedial PT. Doing PT on weekends if necessary.

Am I readin this right? Soldiers out of boot camp failing their Army Physical Fitness Test.

Sack up and make PT a priority for all. You dont get out of pt , all are still in the army. Checkout CSM Daily's thoughts on pt. "PT is not he most important thing you do all day in the army, it is the most importantthing you do everyday. "

Sorry, in my 4 year I never heard of a guy in my unit failing a PT test. Never. You'd get punked, you'd get laughed at, they'd call you a pussy. Everyone passed their test , how hard is 3 pull-ups, 28 minute 3 mile run, sit ups? That minimum, if you can't do that get out unless your on profile or something unexpectedly happens like getting hit by a truck.

We had a junior marine take a half scoop of C4 before a PFT.. kid had a heart attack at the 1 mile mark. He survived, but he was processed out. That’s the only time anyone should fail a PFT.

Let me add, I ran every day of the week except Sunday till the day I drove out of Lejeune in 1979. I typically did 13-14 pull-ups, max was 20. The 3 mile run I typically ran 20-21 minutes, again nothing special, max time was 28 minutes. Sit-ups were a give away. That was always a 1st class PFT score, and I was no where near maxing it.
I realize things change, but pull ups are not new, 3 shouldn't be a problem, obviously a minimum. Running is still running, everyone runs, 3 miles in 28 minutes can damn near be walked, minimum. If you can't do that you just don't give a shit about yourself or your buddies. If you can't do the minimum you don't get off the Island to begin with.

Right. A real stretch right there, most HS seniors could do that.
