I went to an awards banquet when I was on recruiting duty many years ago. My girlfriend wore a very short skirt that was apparently the subject of some gossip, which I only found out about much later.
I didn't think it was inappropriate, but apparently the wives and girlfriends of some of my shipmates felt differently.
You be the judge.

It's on the fence; awards banquet I think it's fine, but too short for a ball...some may think it's a bit short-but to be honest, most of those who complain would be those who were envious IMO.

Well, here's what transpired the following year, by way of comparison and contrast. This one got a boob job about a month or so later.

In the old days, nobody could describe ponography, but they knew it when they saw it. I've grown more than tired of seeing women 25 pounds more than the halter top was designed for. Some looked like the Michelin Man. There's good taste but there is also a need for good sense to dress in something that flatters, not degrades. We'll always have the small minority that just doesn't get it.
That said, be sure to compliment the young woman in the overused prom dress as that might be all they can afford. We're all family.

Looks like, Ol' Captain Iforgethisname, has been hanging around the strip clubs outside of gate 5 on Ft Campbell.

My wife had asked a lot of questions pertaining to this topic so we had researched a few links.

http://militaryspouse.com/military-life/top-10-tips-for-choosing-a-classy-not-trashy-ball-gown/
There are a lot of options out there for information. One link my wife found had over 100 "rules" and guides all the way down to nail polish.
The bottom line is be tasteful, especially as an Officer or NCO. Understand rank structure - it goes a long way as far as respect and making your date (the service member) look good as well.

I don't see the issue. You all are confusing a spouse's attire with that of a prostitute. It is pretty obvious that the young man in question paid his date for her services, so therefore her attire is appropriate. Obviously he would not want his spouse dressed in that attire.

Dress code attire is not appropriate for the function. Should have been asked to leave. Whether the (date) or (paid escort) is not the subject matter. The outfit is.

Hell no. Did he pick her up at the strip club before the Ball? He should have known better than to take her looking like that.
