You've been to military balls. Like me, you've seen a wide variety of ball gowns. What is an appropriate ball gown? What is not? Can you give or show example?

I hope his senior rater for his OER addresses the issue of UNSATISFACTORY DECISION MAKING!!! You sir are a prime example of why spineless, whines, wimps should NEVER BE ALLOWED IN THE MILITARY!!! Tomorrow night in MY first Marine Corps Ball and I am prior Army so I am very honored and nervous at the same time. I have my gown, pearls, gloves, shoes ready, but I am wondering if I should keep my shoulders covered during dinner?

Every ball varies in actual formality (usually the more officer wives the more formal), so bring the wrap you wish but don't expect to use it. I was the only one in a ball of over 1000 wives to even wear gloves, so be prepared to be flexible if you feel self concious. I will say, however- NEVER apologize for being the best dressed in the room, especially in what is supposed to be a black tie affair. Wear your classiness like the jewel that it is. Your husband/boyfriend will be glad he has a true lady on his arm.
