One of the easiest and free ways to find out what is publicly available knowledge about yourself is by putting in your name on the search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, and Safari. You may want to do this prior to submitting resumes to prospective employers so that you are aware of what they are going to see. Use your full first, middle, and last name.

Believe it or not, companies have people in HR specifically to search online profile from Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. To see what people post, the kind of pictures, see their friends and associates they hang out with, etc. If someone has a shady past, my advice would be to disable your account temporarily till your hired and made a name for yourself.
