What do you think, RP members? Which combat platform is the fastest? Naval types will likely know this, of course. (Hint: the answer might surprise you!)

I voted for Carriers. Boring holes in the water somewhere in the South China Sea. We were doing about 25-kts on an LPD. Our hull was shaking like a wild bull. The Nimitz overtook us like we were stuck in a frozen pond. She was kicking up a roster tail that was almost to the flight deck. Needless to say, they weren't at flight ops and everything was chained to the deck. Crazy Impressive Power.

Go Navy Beat Army. Four year active Navy 89 - 93 aboard the world's finest ageis cruiser "USS San Jacinto". I wear an Air Force Uniform, but I still have my Navy Pride.

Call for "Battle override", pull out the rev limiters on the LM2500's on a Tico and it'll push over 40kts. Lee helm at that point is covered as it's classified. Now...remember THAT has never been tested as it's a "last measure" and the engines are required to be replaced at the next base assuming it survives the action. The "Big E" indeed had 8 reactors and although they could boil more water...they(as with any carrier) is limited not by the shaft rev but bearing temps

PO1 James Booker - I thought Enterprise was limited by shaft torque specs, especially in 1 plant or 4 plants. Something about bending a shaft during sea trials? And I heard she could do over 40 knots back when she was new- and unlike a Tico, could do that all day. ;)
