What's the most unusual way you have seen someone receive notification of promotion?

A friend of mine got a certificate of promotion to PV1 from PV2.... Next day s1 brought the certificate for PFC. Another guy in same unit got promoted to SPC from PV1 because no officer ever pinned him PV2 or PFC.

Also saw several being chewed out for being out of uniform. Wearing the wrong rank.

My coworker, the senior of the 3 of us, made E-4 in less than four years (very rare at that time and a sure sign of a good performer) My NCOIC had a very nice sign made and it was displayed on the day of promotion. Also on the sign in not so professional writing was P. S. And also to A2C Porter.

I knew I got my Sgt Stripes when I saw that my rank was upgraded on my AKO profile. My platoon sergeant was so happy because it was his first promotion as a new PSG, then I ruined it for him by saying that I already knew about it when he called me in to tell me.

I saw a buddy of mine get his rank for his chest, PC as well as his 4187 given to him with a copy of his permanent profile by 1SG. No ceremony, no words really. Just walked out of the S3 shop.
