Released in 1927. Way ahead of its time.

I saw a conspiracy video about this. Great (or not so great, depending on POV) things said about it.

"The Great Santini" (1979) Have it on Beta, VHS, and DVD. Followed closely by "The Godfather."

A great movie, Capt Mark Strobl, based on the novel by Pat Conroy, with the title character being based on Conroy's real father. Conroy was quoted as saying, "I hated my father long before I knew there was a word for hate." They later reconciled. SPC David S.

LTC Stephen C. my father and I are getting along just fine now despite the early difficulties in our inability to understand one another. My sister and I now joke about our "Great Santini" upbringing. However difficult it was I wouldn't trade it for anything.

There are almost too many to mention, SGT (Join to see), but since we're commenting on a military website, I'll offer up All Quiet on the Western Front (1930). It's based on the novel by Erich Maria Remarque, published in 1929. Lew Ayres (pictured) won the Academy Award for Best Actor. Also pictured is the first edition cover of the novel. CAPT Kevin B.

Ah LTC Stephen C. I have to admit I followed directions for "oldest". In that era, you sure picked a winner in my book too.

I tried to follow the "oldest" guideline as well, CAPT Kevin B., but added the criteria that it had to be a talkie. I don't think we could get many of the younger RP crowd to watch a silent flick!

The youngsters are missing a great drinking opportunity. Get a few under the belt, pop the silent flick on, and then have the crew do voice overs. Got pretty funny. Just another thing to do when there was nothing to do outside the wire.
