Many of the service members on PatientsLikeMe are discussing employment and finding employment. What's your experience been like?

SN Vivien Roman-Hampton - In my opinion companies get hung up on certifications and specific requirements. USAA has a "Hire Veterans" policy and a coordinator. While it was 10 years ago now I specifically moved to San Antonio to work for USAA. After months of apply for Jobs I thought I was qualified for and wanted to do I started to apply for anything just to get a job and get my foot in the door. I followed up with the coordinator of many of those positions. Near the end before I was hired into my current position they said I was not even qualified to man the gate. A retired O-4 AT/FPO with a resume I paid $500 to civilianize and that is where I stood. I wish I had an answer for our service members transitioning today but it is tough. I think something the RP community could do is form a committee or group to come up with some real answers. In the end, it will take industry taken a chance on a less then qualified candidate because of what a veteran brings to the job and culture.

LCDR (Join to see) I think you are on to something with forming a committee or group to work through to find the real answers.
