There are some truly amazing memorials out there, whether in Washington, DC, at a hometown location, OCONUS, or anywhere else around the world; many are epic works of art in their own right, some are well known (with a national or international audiences), while others quietly tell their story relatively unknown to the masses. So, what's your most memorable military or military-related display or memorial? Where's it located and how/why does it move you? What is it that you find most compelling about the memorial or location? What makes this particular place or time unique, interesting, thought-provoking, moving, or special to you? Please feel free to share your stories, photographs, links, video or anything else needed to tell your story. This should be both fun and informative, and we'll get to learn a bit of history, context, and a little bit about each other in the process; thank you for all that you do, and... see you all in the discussion threads!

There are several that I have visited over the years. But one where you not only can touch history but remember the sacrifices made, not only in one war but three is Battleship Cove in Fall River Mass. http://www.battleshipcove.com/ The Battleship Massachusetts is not only a memorial to WWII Vets across the country to on board is Memorial to all those that served from the State of Massachusetts that died during the war. The Destroyer Joseph P. Kennedy is a memorial to both Korean and Vietnam with the same type of Memorials on board. The Submarine Lionfish is for those that gave their lives in the Silent Service. And Two PT Boats for those that served on them and sacrificed their lives as well as being the type of ship piloted by the Future President John F. Kennedy. <br><br>Another Memorial is at my High School where I graduated from. It lists all those from Manchester, CT that fought in WWII. <br><br>The Bunker Hill Monument and the USS Constitution, are other memorials in Boston Mass. that are dedicated to the Revolutionary War battle and the War of 1812. Along Freedom trail anchoring both ends.<br>http://www.nps.gov/bost/historyculture/bhm.htm<br>http://www.history.navy.mil/ussconstitution/<br><br>The most famous one in the DC area is of course the Iwo Jima Memorial. Along with the Vietnam Memorial. <br><br>There are others and some have already been mentioned. But these are the ones that have a lot of history behind them.<br><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://www.history.navy.mil/header.jpg"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="http://www.history.navy.mil/ussconstitution/">USS CONSTITUTION - America's Ship of State</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">USS CONSTITUTION, Bldg. 5, Charlestown Navy Yard, Charlestown, MA 02129

<p>Yes, this is another great memorial and an excellent addition to the area, it's visible from DC (and looks particularly great at night) the grounds immediately surrounding are still under construction, it already looks great today, and will be incredible when the surrounding area (former Navy Annex absorbed by ANC) is fully completed!</p><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://cdn.hlm2.com/App_Themes/Common/images/ResourceLibrary/loading.gif"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a href="http://www.airforcememorial.org/home" target="_blank">Home - AirForceMemorial</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">The site home page</div></div><div style="clear: both;"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://www.aviewoncities.com/img/zzbuttons/btn_dropdown_sel1.gif"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a href="http://www.aviewoncities.com/washington/airforcememorial.htm" target="_blank">Air Force Memorial, Washington</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">The Air Force Memorial in Washington, DC</div></div><div style="clear: both;"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div>

I really have not had the chance to check too many out. But I did like the museum at FT Knox. They had a lot of interesting things from wars past and present. I had a really good time there with the family.

<p>Go Navy! Here's a great planned submarine memorial, paraphrased from the attached website... a group of U.S. Navy veterans plans to build a memorial in Lehigh County to recognize the contributions of Pennsylvanians who served aboard U.S. submarines. According to organizers, the Lehigh Valley base of U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc. has received the Navy's approval to use pieces of the USS Groton, a nuclear-powered attack submarine decommissioned in 1997. Additional information available online at: http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/lehigh-county/index.ssf/2014/01/submarine_memorial_to_honor_pe.html</p><p> </p><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://media.lehighvalleylive.com/design/alpha/img/logo_lvlive.gif"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a href="http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/lehigh-county/index.ssf/2014/01/submarine_memorial_to_honor_pe.html" target="_blank">Submarine memorial to honor Pennsylvanians targeted for Lehigh County</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">The Lehigh Valley base of U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc. hopes to raise $1.2 million for the project.</div></div><div style="clear: both;"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div>

But I will tell you that my least favorite one is the Air Force memorial in DC, its just so plain and doesn't do the Air Force justice.

Since I found it last year, I've loved the Armed Forces Memorial in Norfolk, VA. It's kind of hidden along the back edge of Town Point Park. There are 20 or so brass sheets of papers that look like they're blowing across the ground with excerpts from letters written home from wars (Revolution - present).<div><br></div>

Isn't that down by the Nauticus and USS Wisconsin? I think I remember seeing that when I visited that part of Norfolk many times when I was stationed at Langley AFB.<br>
