There are a ton of great songs about military life, that reference the military in some way; some of the more modern works may have a video associated with it, and some of the older classics continue to define the military experience to this day. From country to rock, ballads & pop, to more traditional flavors--did a particular song inspire, educate, or simply strike a chord with you? Please feel free to share any inspiring military-related music, any music or songs that makes you think of/or reminds you of your military service, as well as any links, photos, descriptions or anything that helps you tell your story. The idea here is to have a fun and thought provoking discussion, which will be fun, informative, and provide a means to tell our stories... and to learn about one another as well as our sister services in the process. Wishing you all the best, I look forward to hearing from you, and interacting with you all in the threads!

Great story PO2 Haga, what a moment that must've been, here's a version of the US Navy Song set to a great slideshow showcasing Naval Power... thanks again!

I don't know if this is a military song, but it's "The ballads of the green berets" by Barry Sadler. It was my favorite before I joined the Army in 76, and has been since then. When I turned 50, I had my first son name Jonathan, I use to sing that song to him to put him to sleep. He's 4 years old now and every so often I do sing it with him.

SSG Laureano Pabon and Col (Join to see) and SGT Thomas Lucken, the SFTG instructors made us come to attention and sing this at Camp Mackall, every morning that we had classroom instruction, APR-MAY70!

OK, 1LT L S, I'll give you that! I can promise you this, though. Had you been standing beside me at Camp Mackall in 1970 and the SFTG instructors told you to sing "The Ballad Of The Green Berets", you would have been singing "The Ballad Of The Green Berets"!

A little history here, 1LT L S. Bamiba was simply on the album that was generated as a result of Sadler's number one hit "The Ballad Of The Green Berets". The Ballad was a number one hit for weeks on three charts in 1966, so when I got there in 1970, it was still fresh on the minds of the instructors, virtually all of whom had just returned from a tour with the 5th Group in Vietnam.

Citizen Soldier by 3 Doors down. The song has a lot of meaning and was applies specifically to the value of the National Guard and how important their role is in the Military. http://youtu.be/pgV6VUinDEA

My newest favorite song is Changes of Time by Josh Ritter. It sounds like it was written by someone who spent some time underway…or maybe underwater.

Ballad of the Green Berets. When I was a kid, I remember watching a lot of military movies with my Dad. I'll always remember this one growing up and associate it with the US Military.
