There are a ton of great songs about military life, that reference the military in some way; some of the more modern works may have a video associated with it, and some of the older classics continue to define the military experience to this day. From country to rock, ballads & pop, to more traditional flavors--did a particular song inspire, educate, or simply strike a chord with you? Please feel free to share any inspiring military-related music, any music or songs that makes you think of/or reminds you of your military service, as well as any links, photos, descriptions or anything that helps you tell your story. The idea here is to have a fun and thought provoking discussion, which will be fun, informative, and provide a means to tell our stories... and to learn about one another as well as our sister services in the process. Wishing you all the best, I look forward to hearing from you, and interacting with you all in the threads!

California by the Eagles. I heard this song on the way to bootcamp. My basic training company was HOTEL Co. and our military symbol is the Eagle Globe and Anchor.

A recruit tried to escape during bootcamp, and the MPs returned him. Therefore the verse in the song, that reiterates my feeling about this is 'you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave'.

Other than the Marine Hymn, a few oldies:
The theme from "Victory at sea"
The end of TV viewing day "Flight poem"
"The caisson song" of the field artillery, my Dad use to sing it when I was very young.
He was Army artillery in N/Africa, Sardinia, Corsica and Italy.

"the Caissons Go Rolling Along" was replaced in the 60s with a reworded "The Army Goes Rolling Along", due to the Caissons being obsolete. The Air Force song "The Wild Blue Yonder"

MSG John Wirts I did not mean the Air Force anthem, but the old video played at the end of the TV programming day when they would go off the air. It was flying around in the clouds while the pilot said this poem that ended "....and touched the face of god" It was very inspiring.

I just came across this piece and video. Its called "Hymn to the Fallen" by John Williams.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Omd9_FJnerY

This piece of music by him honors those who fought and died. May they not be forgotten.
