There are a ton of great songs about military life, that reference the military in some way; some of the more modern works may have a video associated with it, and some of the older classics continue to define the military experience to this day. From country to rock, ballads & pop, to more traditional flavors--did a particular song inspire, educate, or simply strike a chord with you? Please feel free to share any inspiring military-related music, any music or songs that makes you think of/or reminds you of your military service, as well as any links, photos, descriptions or anything that helps you tell your story. The idea here is to have a fun and thought provoking discussion, which will be fun, informative, and provide a means to tell our stories... and to learn about one another as well as our sister services in the process. Wishing you all the best, I look forward to hearing from you, and interacting with you all in the threads!

I do believe we still have a good number of folks in the military as a direct result of this movie (and song); Top Gun was an off-the-chart hit in its day, we couldn't have made a better recruiting tool if we tried, the reach and influence of this movie and soundtrack are hard to quantify (but massive to say the very least). I do believe the Air Force was approached first for this movie and turned it down (anyone familiar w/ the history on this?); if so, bad choice AF, although turned out pretty good for the Navy, what do you think?  Thanks for sharing SSG Woodard, awesome set, just one more to finish side one of the 'mixed tape!' lol

I personally love country music, and there are a lot of great country music songs that have been done for the military or at least reference the military.  I find that any of these patriotic songs always seem to find that soft spot in my heart.  I think even more so know than as a kid, especially when I have experienced it and lost many friends in this world.  Here are just a few of them:

Maybe outside the theme here but a traditional song, the song of the 7th Cavalry and the 1st Cavalry Division song "GarrOwen".  This is the Hollywood version of the Irsish limerick.

It may not be considered a Military song but I like the Bridge Over River Kwai Theme Song.  Lee Greenwood's Proud to be an American.  He sang this during an USO show on the USS Midway.  It really affected everyone there.

Sir, I haven't seen the video behind it but I did read about it. When I was home I would listen to it all the time and my Mom always thinks of me when it comes on.
