Hubby and I just returned from a 5 day Caribbean Cruise (Carnival Victory). This was my 5th (non-Navy-deployment!) cruise, and I swear, if I could cruise 4 or 5 times a year, I totally would. One day, perhaps....

We like to cruise right after Thanksgiving for 2 reasons: one, it's still warm in the caribbean/bahamas, two, it's right around my birthday and the prices are ridiculously inexpensive. 5 days and we had a rate of $200 per person ($40 per person per night). We do interior cabins because we don't spend much time in our cabin, so we'd rather spend extra money we might spend on a 'nicer cabin' on other activities.... such as adult beverages ;)

If you cruise - what cruise lines or specific ships or destination ports do you prefer? I've been to Cabo San Lucas, Puerta Vallarta, Nassau, Freeport, Key West, Cozumel, Cancun, and Grand Cayman. I'm happy anywhere warm with a beach. LOL.

I kind of wish we could develop a travel web on here. Want to see Texas or Oklahoma? I have the room. Anybody got spare room near the Grand Canyon? Continental breakfast for everyone! I can scramble eggs and only burn toast sometimes(:/)

Someplace on a tropical ocean coast. Preferably one where surfing and sailing are available. It should come with some sort of beverage wherein a little blue tiki umbrella is affixed. A past history of pirates corsairs or Buccaneers is a plus. An additional perk would be an adjacent golf course.

My wife and I traveled to Costa Rica this summer. 7 days. It was the best. The culture, biodiversity is respected so much there. It's a serious getaway from it all. We're definitely going back.

I have never been, but I heard that you don't have to speak the language and it is beautiful. How true are the rumors? I would love to go this summer.

That is correct! Costa Rican's within business establishments and many other areas speak good english. Beautiful doesn't even come close to explaining it. You have to go. Just think of this fact, Costa Rica accounts for about .03% of the earth's mass and holds 5% of the world's biodiversity!!!! Now imagine the wildlife. At one of our hotels we went outside to go to the pool, we were on the top floor. There were a troop of monkeys in the trees beside us. The youngest was in the rear and out of curiosity came as close as four feet from me to examine me. To be able to view these beauties in their natural habitat was one of the most memorable experiences to date! That was just the monkeys, there was definitely more to see, some beauties came out at certain times of the day and we only had seven days to do so much. I admit I went on and on there but don't take my word for it, experience it for yourself!

That hotel was the best for us. They have hot springs heated by the volcano!

So, on this thread, has anyone gone to the military resort in Hawaii? Was wondering how that was. We stopped at but could not stay at Shades of Green Disney, will stay there next time we go.

I didn't go to a resort, but on Oahu, the AF has a private beach. My family and I stayed in a cabin for about $30 a day. And the beach was practically deserted, compared to the Honolulu side.

Went to the Hale Koa for the luau when we where in Hawaii. But never stayed there. Checked it out and seemed like a pretty nice place. We are planning to stay there the next time we are in Oahu.

I was fortunate and was stationed on Oahu for three years. SGT (Join to see), did you know that that spot on the upper left of the picture of your kids looking over the railing is the home of the Sea Life Park? You can swim with dolphins there...

Didn't know about the dolphins, but my kids almost peed when they heard about "shark highway".

Paris in the spring.

Prague in the fall.

Scotland anytime you fell like spending your entire trip drunk as a monkey. The Scots take drinking to a whole new level. You can also stay in a real castle!

Ireland (not just the airport on way to/from deployment) is on my list. Scotland as well. I golf and want badly to make it over and play!

Right, I was so bummed that I couldn't accidentally 'miss my flight' coming home from deployment at our layover in Shannon. I want to take my family there someday...

I did a week in Iraland in Dublin. You know they actually have liver insurance there? If I had been there another week I would have got the insurance!

We don't vacation much, PO3 (Join to see), but one of the places we had the best time was AFRC in Garmisch, Germany. We walked up into the mountains and it was like we walked into the "Sound of Music." Just plain beautiful.

We did not, MAJ (Join to see), but we found a meadow up in the mountains with sheep and goats ... and it was almost surreal. So beautiful!

Thanks CW5 Scott Montgomery -- I just couldn't resist when it looked like a scene from the movie! But I'd opt for a warmer locale for a vacation.

For some reason I get a picture of Chevy Chase. I lived about 45 minutes away in a small village called Leeder. Southern Germany is my favorite place on earth. If you are a history buff, you could spend the rest of your life learning.

Lately my vacations are an hour or three in a hundred and thirty degree racecar at one of the four major tracks in Florida. It sounds like madness but I always get out of the car with a smile. Everything else takes second place with that amount of long term concentration. It is my shrink couch.

Back when I actually took vacations...Palm Island in the Keys, Ocho Rios in Jamaica, and my friends home in Winterthur Switzerland, great base to drive throughout Europe from.

My wife and I cruise every year. For the money it is hard to beat. If we take children with us, we spring for a larger cabin. My favorite Carnival cruise was the southern Caribbean also on the Victory. I like the options available on ships the size of the Glory. The Dream was ok but they didn't increase the things to do. They add 1000 guest and just make lines longer and hard to get good seats for the shows. We are going again in March on the new one leaving out of Cape Canaveral for eight days.

PO3 (Join to see) Just keep rubbing it in. LOL

My wife and I have done 2 cruises, loved both. One was a 3 nighter on Carnival from Mobile, AL (don't think they do them anymore from there) to Cozumel. Was great. Next was a 5 nighter to the Bahamas on a Norwegian. Night and day difference between the two, with Norwegian hitting the home run.

Cruises are the best value for a getaway. I do have to say that I upgraded on Norwegian to a balcony room. That was worth it. Sitting out there quietly having wine with my sweetie in middle of the ocean was awesome.
