I remember the first time I went skydiving. I had a lot on my mind but as soon as I left the plane there was this profound clarity - it was as if everything I was dwelling on became yes/no choices and it was just 10 seconds of yes, yes, no, yes, no, no and so on as I went down the list.

My “go-to” has always been music. Either listening to it, or playing it on my guitar. Both allow me to slow the buzz inside my head and enable me to relax.

Apologies, y'all. It used to be exercise for me as far as a mental health reset. I'm in a housing situation right now where nothing helps, not even a hardcore workout. Every day is a fight to not despair, to not get drunk and forget, to not find someone who has illicit drugs to make me forget about my housing situation, or to not cut my flesh. I'm always exhausted and I can't sleep because the all of my failings haunt me at night alongside my memories that relate to my PTSD. I've reached out to over 20 different veterans' organizations, government organizations, non-government organizations, lenders, legal groups, HUD counselors, even Operation Homefront, Wounded Warrior Project, and The Gary Sinise Foundation! And NO ONE wants to help! Not even to try and stack resources to help! I'm tired all the time, but I'm afraid to rest and I'm afraid to quit because I don't want my family to suffer. For me, quitting equals failure. So I push on in spite of my fatigue. I'm sorry that I can't answer this question anymore...

For me, traveling/sightseeing definitely puts me in a positive headspace. It's a healthy distraction that allows me to come back with more energy and fresh perspectives to tackle current problems. Visiting Machu Picchu in 2022 was one of these type of experiences. I paid homage to my Grandfather "Papito Walter" [who passed away around that time; may he rest in Peace] and I reflected on life at one of the wonders of the world.

I go on my mountain bike for a long ride out into nature. Far away from cars and people, always alone as its a spiritual quest to become one with nature and reset my brain.
