Getting outside with my shoes off sitting under an oak tree in the yard. Practice a little Mindfulness using the VA's free app. Just doing nothing and listening to the sounds of nature around me.

I regularly practice techniques learned at VA mindfulness and medical yoga classes. These include Yoga Nidra, meditation, exercise, getting enough sleep, playing music, and reaching out to friends. These activities help me feel refreshed, calm and energized.

I started with Mindfulness, also learned from the VA, the second year of COVID. I wish more vets would give it a try. Many vets I talk to have an aversion to any type of mediation thinking its weird or not cool. It helps, it works, and its simple.

I have a daily meditation practice. I like to meditate shortly after my first cup of coffee. Meditation time ranges from 10 minutes to 30 minutes.

Typically when I need a reset I work on my breathing exercises and either take a hot bath or get in the pool and float for a while. Water is peaceful and relaxing to me. I will often read as well. It helps to clear my mind of stressors.

My mental health reset is wreck diving. I can let the real world melt away as I start my decent by focusing on only the sound of bubbles pushing past my face. The deeper I go, the colors dull into the deep blue hue of the ocean. Managing my air pressure and various other numbers takes my mind off the real world for a little time so that I can have that needed break.
I try to go diving as much as I can, as this is the escape that I use to give my mind a rest.

I use the Bible. There is no better book for mental relaxation for the human soul. It can keep you on an even keel in times like we are experiencing now, because it has already told us what is going to happen. GOD is the cure for the mental illness going on in the world. People still need to talk to someone, though, but make sure the person is rooted in the Bible, not some hogwash telling you to recite this or that.

I read something--a SciFi novel, the Bible, a few science based newsletters (Smithsonian, Live Science, Space), anything but news/currents evernts

Early morning, the quiet, sitting in meditation, before coffee, followed by reflection on the sounds in my safe place; not naming or quantifying, just me and the place I am.
