Asteroids, then Escapa (a game used by fighter pilots to teach SA).

I'll go back a little further and name the Adventures of Captain Comic (or just Captain Comic) from 1988. An MS DOS game which was one of the first "freeware" games to exceed what was available for purchase at the time. Of course this was well before Windows. I spent many hours in the dorm at Kunsan South Korea figuring out how to beat it. FYI: It can still be played online at http://www.classicdosgames.com/online/ccomic5.html

Parsec or MunchMan - cheap Texas Instruments knock-offs of Galaga and Pac-man that you could play on the TI-99 computer, early 80's.

90's computer game for me was Castles II: Siege and Conquest. You got to build castles, create armies, make allies, and try to take over the country.
