What should be done if the President is mentally ill?

If the man at the top may be unstable - then the White House is likely to exhibit some instability - as well as some efforts by the White House staff - who are normal infighters - to undermine and replace the man at the top. The problem, however, is how to accomplish regime change (the replacement of a mentally unstable incumbent with another member of the ruling political party) within the very strict confines of the United States Constitution - and within the constraint of maintaining the full faith and confidence of the citizens. Time to bring Mike Pence up to bat.

You have one option, invoke the 25th Amendment. This can only be done with the concurrence of and the agreement of the VPOTUS and a SIMPLE MAJORITY of the SITTING Cabinet.
SSgt Jim Gilmore
Sgt Steven Thomas - The Dems can't stop his picks from being approved, only delayed. The left screwed themselves on this when they invoked the nuclear option under Harry Reid, changing from a super majority to a simple majority. He'll get his cabinet and the Dems won't get to invoke the 25th either.

MCPO Roger Collins - Just curious - what happens if a boomer or hunter driver becomes obviously incapacitated? Is there some procedure - or do we quietly ask him / her to step down until concerns are quietly resolved? Warmest Regards, Sandy :)
MCPO Roger Collins
1LT Sandy Annala - There are procedures for that, although the PRP is excellent and has never occurred to the best of my knowledge.
Trump is not unstable. He tells it like it is and in doing so, hurts feelings. That doesn't make somebody unstable and from his actions so far, from what I can see does not show any indication of that.
As a medical professional, surely you must understand how unethical it is for medical professionals to “diagnose“ a patient that they have never examined. Shame on you for posting those links.
This should not be a topic for this forum! President Donald Trump is your Commander-in Chief!

I served in the US Army Nurse Corps then USDOS INR in Vietnam from 1970 to 1975.
President Richard Nixon and President Gerald Ford were my Commanders in Chief -- never President Donald Trump. I'm a Deeply Loyal God Fearing Reagan Era Republican -- not one of these New Wave Republican Carpet Baggers. Warmest Regards, Sandy :)

Hypothetically speaking (and my views do not reflect the DOD or DON), there are checks and balances for this type of situation. That is why we have impeachment. The other two branches can deal with this. That is why the checks and balances are like that.
