Help about reclass and school dates availability. My window is Open. Currently stationed in Fort wainwright,AK. I already talk to my retention NCO due to DEROS. My retention said they can only look for school dates between 6months from my DEROS(dec2020). When we check available AIT class in his system there are no school slot for 25N that im trying to reclass. But when we check ATRRS there are mutiple school dates. Is it possible that all of them are full? How often do AIT classes change? Can i check again with my rentention next month If anything opens up? Will it help if i try to contact school house? Does anybody here who can guide me or a good advice that i can take? Ive been trying to reclass ever since i join in. From GT score, clearance, and IN/OUT calls restriction for me when i tried before. But now im good with all that. Now the issue is school dates availability. been looking for answers its just frustrating that you try and try to fix your deficiency yet there is always a hurdle right after the other.

Your Career Counselor is exactly correct. Retain shows open class seats. ATRRS only shows when and where a class is. You don't see how many seats are filled or who the quotas are allocated to. Many MOS's will never have a reclass seat offered in Retain.

Do not call the Schoolhouse. They cannot help you. They will just give you bad information. If you ask them they will tell you that of course they have class seats and they have classes going unfilled and that you can just get one of the seats from the Reserves. Or sometimes they'll even tell you to contact the Commandant or the Proponent for a waiver, or to see if they can get you a class seat. I've seen it all. The truth is they have no power outside of the students who are enrolled and they have no knowledge about how to get Soldiers there who aren't already on assignment to the course. What will happen is that you'll go down a rabbit hole wasting time, and you're on a clock when you have a DEROS.

Your Career Counselor can send a request for 25N but if it's not on the system where he can see, HRC doesn't have one either. The reason SGT Park was able to get a class from sending a hotline is that the class seats were outside the one year window. You can't take a class seat further than six months past your DEROS. DEROS is the reason it's next to impossible to reclass while OCONUS.

When will a class seat opens? Whenever it opens. Maybe next week maybe next month, maybe next year. You're on a short clock. Your branch is required to place you on assignment once you're within six months of your DEROS. Once you're on assignment you can't reclass. You might want to pick a duty station now before the Army picks one for you.

You weren't able to reclass before because you weren't qualified or the Army wasn't hiring. You have a job that pays well and will allow you a good retirement. You have to decide what's more important. If it's 25N or bust for you, you need to start planning on where you're going to live when you join the National Guard or Reserves. If you just don't like your job then there are broadening assignments or other MOS's. You can go to 25E once you're a promotable E5 and meet the prerequisites.

My solid advice is reenlist for a duty station you like then reclass to 25E once you're eligible

SGT (Join to see) you gave good advice. It was remarkably accurate considering you're not a Career Counselor and probably not a Retention NCO. Maybe you should consider an MOS change to Career Counselor instead of 25N.

Thank you SFC Boyd, I read a lot of your comments and regulations. Career Counselor was my initial desire but due to my command not releasing me from a 13J30 MTOE, I was not able to be a retention NCO because of the workload that it pertains. Hopefully I can be a career counselor one day.

SGT (Join to see) you don't have to be released by your command. Battery Retention NCO is an additional duty, every Battery has to have at least one. If it's something you're interested in you should talk with your Career Counselor. Once you've reclassed to 25N you'll be too far in your career to become a Career Counselor. I know 25N sounds appealing but if you ask any Career Counselor in the Army they'll tell you that this is the very best MOS in the Army

Thank You SFC Boyd for clarification. I talk to Retention yesterday and decided to take your advice. just reenlist for 2 years at lower 48 and by the time I get there it should only be few month for my window to open again. just try to reenlist and reclass from there since their is no DEROS tied to it and have a better chance.

I can’t tell you for sure why the slots aren’t populating for your CC, there are plenty of classes with vacancies. The classes tend to pick up every other Wednesday, or Friday. I came to Fort Gordon last March as a 25N, and I head the students at the company that trains them. In the last few months we went from having myself and three other 25N for the past year, to gaining 13 additional. Either the army is trying to fill those slots up or there are people getting real lucky. The school house itself would only be able to tell you when classes pick up/graduate.
