As part of the FY 2021 NDAA, there are 10 U.S. Army posts, currently named after men who were Confederate generals during the Civil War, which are required to be renamed by the end of 2023.

The posts being renamed are:

Camp Beauregard, LA
Fort Polk, LA
Fort Benning, GA
Fort Gordon, GA
Fort Bragg, NC
Fort A.P. Hill, VA
Fort Lee, VA
Fort Pickett, VA
Fort Rucker, AL
Fort Hood, TX

This post is not to debate the merits of whether or not they should be renamed (it's happening). I'm curious as to what you think the specific posts should be renamed and why?

Leave as is, part of history so we don’t repeat it.

They should be renamed to the same names they have now. Save the money and time wasted to do this.

I believe Fort Bragg should be re-named for the Union general who commanded the Iron Brigade, and later became a Democratic congressman: Edward S. Bragg. Shouldn't be much controversy there, and we would save a lot on sign painting costs.

I don't know why they feel the need to rename them, since I think most of those posts have created enough of their own history to overshadow those they were named for. Whenever I think of Benning, it's not some semi-obscure Confederate general that I am reminded of, but the home of the Infantry. If PC demands it, maybe for Benning, Fort Bradley, since Omar Bradley commanded the Infantry School early in WW2. But I am sure they will be renamed by some politician who never wore a uniform, with no appreciation of history.

What a crock of liberal loon BS. How about you rename them "Liberal Bullshit One; Liberal Bullshit Two; Liberal Bullshit Three; etc."

I couldn't help but notice that all your primary suggestions are Marines... so I'm sure there's a fair bit of trolling going on here, but obviously it wouldn't make much sense to name Army posts after Marines.

CW4 Keith Dolliver - There is way more than a fair bit of trolling, but did you really expect any different?

I actually think it is a natural for Ft Bragg to become Ft Ridgway. And I personally think that General Stilwell deserves a lot more recognition than he has received. So all trolling aside I think those are two fine choices.

Maybe the Marines could update their base names for deserving Marines as most (maybe all?) Marine bases are named for nearby towns or geography. The Navy seems to do the same while the Air Force and Army tend to name bases after people.

Fort U. S. Grant (There is an old Ft. Grant, but it is closed) few men deserve a fort named after them as well as Gen. (President) Grant, Fort Sherman, Fort Eisenhower, Fort Pershing, Fort Marshall, Fort Patton, Fort Bradley, Fort MacArther, Fort Ridgeway, Fort Benevidez. I just throwing a few names out there of great men who we should probably name a major army post after. A few of the names have been used for posts before but they are/were old closed posts or no longer exist.

No matter what the name, someone will always find a reason to be offended. Birds, animals, mammals, reptiles, insects...start there. Someone will still complain.
