They shouldn't be renaming the posts, just because someone is upset over it. Many soldiers, of all races, went through these posts, and served proudly, with no questions asked about where they were

Regardless what they are renamed, someone, somewhere is going to get butt hurt.

Rename Fort Bragg to Fort Rucker, Fort Rucker to Fort Benning, etc., etc…
And tell General Millie to go suck an egg!

As a Gold Star Father, Veteran, son of a WWII veteran, father of two marines and one army soldier who died in Bagdad by an Iranian supplied EFP, most would consider me, my immediate family, and my heritage to be one of patriotism. In the spirit of patriotism, I say, "Leave the names of military bases alone"! Bases were named after great patriots who had the fighting spirit in battle that we need to win wars. Do not cave in to social justice warriors and their wonk philosophy. If they had their way, bases would likely all be named after black criminals who were killed by police trying to make a lawful arrest. Your premise to this question is correct - I do not agree with renaming these bases. I will not prostrate myself to this liberal nonsense by participating in these exercise. Have a nice day.

I object to renaming these military facilities. Don't care if you and/or your higher-ups OR the failed Biden administration care or not. REGISTERING MY OBJECTION!!

Jim Fleming Vietnam vet . Leave the names the way they are. I was at fort Polk and Benning . They will all ways be that to me. It seems the left in this country want to change our history , if this is done we will be doomed to repeat our mistakes again.

I realize that some of these men were great military minds. Still, it does seem wrong to name US military installations after people who took up arms against their country. Yes it is all very complicated and we can’t understand all the motivations and divided loyalties of these men 150 years after the fact. It doesn’t change the fact that their behavior violated the oath we all took when we served.
If I could make the change, I would rename ALL bases using the same criteria: the name of a local military hero. In many cases it would be the name of a CMOH recipient. In some cases it might be someone who didn’t receive such a high award, but is renowned for their bravery or leadership. I would avoid anyone who later became a politician. The person should be deceased, having died at least 50 years ago (hopefully no unknown skeletons in the closet)
Why not, Fort Alvin C. York; Fort Audie L. Murphy; Fort Desmond S. Doss; and so on.
If you wanted to retain some connection to the Civil War, maybe use the names of battles?

Rename after Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, preferably after a service member that was once stationed at that base. If none came from that base then one from the state that the base is in.
