Lets face they have had these names a very long time. However I don't care. There is a valid point that these names of these forts are enemies and they should have thought of that a long time ago.
However I HATE THE CONFEDERATE FLAG! ban the damn thing.

The unfortunate truth is that no matter what they end up named there will be detractors. It does seem wrong to name US military installations after people who took up arms against the US. On the other hand, how many of those who have served at any of these really understand anything about the people behind the names? Honestly, I think all of the stateside postings I had only included two where I could explain who the installation was named after (Leonard Wood and Carson) and those were places where some effort went into that kind of education.

I dont get the reasoning for any and all changes that have been rumored or are actually happening... first it was decided to take down statues of American history over some bs about racism, then the thought of changing the american flag to something that made no sense and now as of recently are now deciding to change names to places that were around since before anyone of us probably were born... this whole race and discrimination crap is getting out of hand... people now adays have gotten so easily butthurt over a stupid comment or stupid idea... This country is going into a crapper fast due to such thinking... a sad day...

First right of the bat, I am white. I have seen brutal racists do wicked things. I have also see some people of color be just a mean and brutal. Our country is out of control, there are people who want everything for free and if they don't get that steal it. We witnessed it in the summer of 2020. Can we save our country? I honestly don't know. The politicians are even more responsible for destroying our USA.

PO3 John Fahrer I totally agree with what you said, l am white as well which doesnt make a difference in any situation. This once great country has taken a knee to most ordeals here and some how gets over looked as to be nothing of value or importance... Even with the approval rating severely dropping of the so called president, we still have to deal with his nonsense agenda to which will send us into a massive if not catastrophic socialist society...

Camp Snowflake, Woke center of excellence? Now that I think of it, we should let cooperations buy naming rights. Ft. Microsoft, Citi Bank naval base, Amazon Air Base.

If any of you so-called veterans are ok with keeping FORTS named after CONFEDERATE GENERALS then you do not get your service to this country!! Progress is being made here by renaming these bases but you have a problem with it because in your mind change is bad. Learn your history and try not to whitewash it in your head.

SSG Esequuias Mendoza - They may have been traitors, yet President Johnson pardoned each and everyone of them, yet in your mind you just cannot fathom the truth, or law. My generation has made mistakes, I grant you that, but your generation has and will continue the tradition of making mistakes. When you whittle down, little by little our history, it will eventually be forgotten. When you become a grumpy old man there will be some young person, like yourself, who will be just as disrespectful as you are now. I relish the future of when that will happen.
Whether they really change the names of the bases, I could really care less. I will always consider and use the names of them that I served on and lived regardless of whatever goofy name you folks name them.
If you're still serving, stay safe and be smart. Stay in long enough to retire from it, military retirement is pretty good. We have different opinions, yes, and no matter how much I bitch about it, it probably will just happen anyways. I wish you fair weather and Happy Holidays.

SFC (Join to see) - So are you saying that just because they were pardoned means that it erases them as traitors or what they did?? GTFOH.. You are the one who wants to change history fool!! You are just flat out wrong and you know it!! I don't care what you want!! It is already happening.
SFC (Join to see)
Just because you say I am wrong doesn't make it true. I am not changing history, but you and those like you are. A pardon means they are forgiven. I threw you a peace offering to end hostilities between our two very different opinions and you just can't let it go. I will respond no more to your comments. Either go in peace or go fuck yourself. I don't care either way.

SFC (Join to see) - Please I don't want your fake peace offering. You are wrong and your opinion is wrong, you just can't seem to comprehend how wrong you are!! You can't admit that you can't change history fool!! It has already happened and just because people want to change the mistake(naming bases after confederate traitors) your white parents generation made does not mean it is changing history!! You can't seem to comprehend or understand that!! It is a good thing that people who thinks like you are dying out so you can take your dimwitted backwards ideas with you!! Change will always happen no matter what your opinion is!!
Ok, so stupidity reigns supreme 'We's 'Woke', yes we is" as they bend over backwards, _________ Here's my 2cents worth: every military installation has a nickname, or the major command has a nickname... Let's use them for the "Official" name of the post

This question has nothing to do with confederate army officers. It has to do with why would you want to name a military base after somebody? I hope the answer is because he or she did something “really” great that I'd like to honor them for, or they did something really great that I have a Lot of respect for.
Say there was this guy who did three great things that I highly respect, but he also did three bad things. These bad things were something I do not respect and I’m disappointed that he did.
I propose that one is the things he did that I'm proud of, and respect him for got him the Congressional medal of honor. One of the bad things he did was getting a bar fight and end up spending a week in jail. For me personally I would certainly consider naming a military base after this person. But suppose the bad thing he did, was rape somebody or murder somebody. Would that be bad enough to say I don’t want to honor him even though he has the Congressional medal of honor? To me it would be.
Now, back to the original question why did we need these bases after these generals? What is it that I am proud of they for? Even if they did many good things but one bad thing (that is rebelling against the law for government of the United States of America) does it outweigh all their good things? To me yes it does. What to name the bases, is a completely separate question from taking their name off of the base. At least that’s my opinion.

The communities and service populations of those bases should be the source of their naming conventions. The affected bases should select for approval from a range of appropriate candidates based on Soldiers of significant service who either served at the location, or hailed from communities nearby that duty station.
For example, I've seen recommendations of Fort Benavidez as a replacement for both Fort Bragg, where Benavidez served in the 82nd and also for Fort Hood, due it's relative proximity to Benavidez's hometown.
