JFC..Stop naming them after people. That's causing itchy taints everywhere. How about naming them for a battle name or title. Ft Nomandy, etc.

NO CHANGE! The installations were named after AMERICAN military leaders that demonstrated leadership, devotion to their troops, battlefield strategy and braveness in the face of an overwhelming foe. In an attempt to unite the country, President Lincoln reportedly declared ALL to be Americans. They should continue to be honored and their histories studied, especially by new officers, for those examples of devotion to duty. All great officers' study past military leaders. Most demonstrated that same devotion to the union after the war. This is exampled by the study of contributions to the US by officers from both sides. General Lee and his officer Corp were respected by President Lincoln as well as his officers for the same reasons. If the objecting folks aren't taught to appreciate the leadership attributes of the military leaders on both sides and the real history of the US the military is not training them as to why they are there. New military members, especially officers, just can't grasp the concept and come in with a very limited, not to mention skewed, appreciation of military history they gained from public schools or from questionable sources.

There will be controversy over any name so perhaps MOH recipients that way true American Heroes are honored from the entire country ?

Its too bad our armed forces have gone woke. The base names have been around for over a hundred years. Part of our history even though it isn’t a part to celebrate. Leave them as they are.

Leave the names alone. Everyone already knows the forts by these names. No sense confusing everyone with new and different names.

It's not about erasing history. Each base had a person who actually had an American Hero that should be honored, we should name the bases for them. Bases should not be named for people who were around before the formation of the United States. Children have to learn about the base when they are in school and soldiers should understand the base has heroes that set the standard for service...
