I did my AIT at Fort Belvoir. The base is uniquely Virginian. If it is to be renamed, I suggest calling it Ford Virginia.

I personally think the bases' names should be left alone. Almost none of them were named after Confederate generals with the motive of promoting what that confederacy stood for. Not to mention Robert E. Lee still stands as the most beloved general in our history; to the point of being respected by both sides of the war. Nobody with such charisma and level of admiration came into existence again until Erwin Rommel began making a name for himself in both world wars, and I'm sure there's at least one military installation in Germany named after him.
Here are some rules of thumb I'd use for changing the names...
1) Someone else mentioned MoH winners. I like that idea, but equally good would be anyone who literally made military history while serving in a unit attached to said base, or better yet be the base that person came from. I'd be ok changing Fort Bragg to Fort Plumley, for instance.
Another thing one can do is rename the main headquarters of each base after a relevant MoH winner or someone else who made a huge positive impact.

CPT Chris McGowan I am reading books; a whole series for that matter. What are your sources of info?

CPT Chris McGowan Literally everything huh? So we shouldn't have Forts named after MoH winners or servicemembers who made huge positive impacts on military history; even more so if they were stationed at the same bases?

CPT Chris McGowan I know of the author as I've read another book of his. For now I'm sticking to my source as it's a whole book series on the Civil War from NC making the first secession to the aftermath of said war. Is it a series to learn tactics? Arguably no. However it makes what in my opinion is a much more important point which is to keep everyone involved human; explaining the consequences of decisions made, and why said decisions were made.

Not saying I won't look into Alexander's book on the Civil War. I just want/need to finish this series first, and it's not a quick read by any means. Maybe I'll add it to my Amazon wishlist so my folks or someone else can get it for me later on.

I am educated. As for celebrating a part of history by keeping these names, you are for erasing history for hundreds of thousands of service members that served at these post. We never CELEBRATED who or why they were named Hood or Polk, but they are now part of MY history.

CPT Chris McGowan - Says the sanctimonious, pretentious man who's opinion is the only one that matters in this subject apparently. His individual history doesn't mean anything. Then mine either or the many, many others that feel the same, we don't matter because we don't agree with your assessment. You're a real piece of work.
Anyone who views them as a current message of continued oppression is an indoctrinated, uneducated fool. Probably one of the fools who actually believe CRT and wokeness belongs in our military.

CPT Chris McGowan - So when do you pay up? I don't watch Tucker Carlson. I don't watch U.S. news because none of it is trustworthy. Don't really watch TV. I have a TV for my kids. I'm guessing you will be no good to your wager though. No surprise there.
I have read quite a lot about CRT. It's tenets are very close to that of The Communist Manifesto which I am guessing is one of the reasons you love it so. Very familiar with both as a former intelligence analyst. If I need to break it down Barney style for you I will. Better yet, read The Communist Manifesto and when you see the word "bourgeoisie", replace it with the word "White" and when you come across the word "proletariat", replace it with the word "Black". CRT
Hell, even the BLM leaders admit to being Marxists...Granted, they discovered Capitalism quickly when people like you gave money to them to buy estates...Class act there.
Yeah, I'll pass on people like you teaching my kids they are oppressors because they are White. That's called racism. I'll also pass on you people telling my nieces and nephews and brother that they can't succeed without your White ass helping them. They're doing fine, great even without your brand of stinking filth.
Wokeness on the other hand is sucking up to the lie of the 1619 Project, and the bullshit notion that the United States is systemically racist which is also patently false and used by those trying to forge a narrative to fit an agenda based on lies to gain money and power and/or support. It also expands into an idea that we have to treat all ideologies equally, no matter how out of tune with reality they actually are. I.E. Transgenderism, manufactured genders, imaginary pronouns etc.

CPT Chris McGowan - You just admitted that you are a traitor. Call it Justice Democrat if you wish, but the progressive movement you support is nothing more than an attempt to over throw the U.S. government and replace it with a socialist regime.

CPT Chris McGowan - So, a traitor of the highest magnitude to this country. Got it. Your words about Confederate Generals and bases have no meaning whatsoever now. You and your kind have done enough damage to this nation. A reckoning is coming by Americans getting real tired of your brand of shit.

Honor NEVER changes. Unfortunately our "present" leaders no longer possess any. They either are part of, or have been literally purchased by the treasonous trash that has bought their own office.

Why change their names what's wrong with the ones they have now. I tell you what you can change fort Hood to the hood because it's all the hell it turned into. Fort polka that's a good one you change his name to fort puke. Fort Bragg that like to brag a lot so you just go ahead and leave that one alone. Then why don't you just change the name of the United States army to the United States transgender. Are the United States gay brigade. Come on I'm sure you can find some liberal bastard and name everything after. It's nothing but a damn laughing stock NOW of the world see this is what happens when you have politicians that want to play generals and generals who wants to be politicians people get killed battles are lost and everything is done and over with.
