Doesn't matter if you agree with this move or not - it's been directed and it's happening. What are your suggestions for renaming the following bases?

- Fort Bragg
- Fort Rucker
- Fort Benning
- Fort Gordon
- Fort Hood
- Fort Polk
- Fort A.P. Hill
- Fort Belvoir
- Fort Lee
- Fort Pickett

You don't rename bases because of political correctness. They are American Soldiers, they have American War Memorials, this is our history. The Constitution was based off of states rights, they served their states. The Confederacy was born off the same principle as the USA, they did exactly what the 13 colonies did to Great Britain 100 years later, they succeeded. When everyone went crazy two years ago with political correctness, people were trying to tear down statues of Lincoln, Generals from the Union, statues of Lewis & Clark, desecrating the WWII Memorial & Memorials from WWI & the Civil War. This is all nonsense. Political Correctness is a cancer that weakens & destroy from within. Should we also change the delete & omit the names of Washington, Jefferson, Adams etc.... take them off our currency, delete their names from our cities, rivers, counties all for political correctness? If you think we should change the names of the Army Bases, you are part of the problem that we need to get rid of, do not omit, delete, cover up our history based on political correctness & what you think is favorable at the moment. How man Confederate Soldiers do you think owned slaves? Almost none, only wealthy land owners did, the Confederate Soldier were mostly poor farmers fighting for their state.

The Woke Generation has NO RIGHT to tell us to erase history. Without our past there would be no present. Get over it! Renaming military installations does nothing except appeasing to some ungrateful people that have no respect for sacrifices made by our servicemen and women on either side of the fence!

The asleep at the wheel oldsters should get a grip- Its you who want to erase history, banning CRT so we don't hear about or study 4 centuries of systemic racism and discrimination- slavery, Jim Crow, Wounded Knee, Trail of Tears, Race riots against China Town, concentration camps for Japanese Americans, discrimination against minorities in housing, financing, education and employment- so, tell me Mikey, why are y'all so danged fired-up about commemorating Confederates that fought a war to preserve the institution of slavery, but you ar hell-bent to talk about the other history? It isn't anti-american- because all of it happened to Americans or people in America.

"Doesn't matter if you agree with this move or not..." Sounds just like something a libtard would say. It ALWAYS MATTERS if I agree or disagree with something. It's my OPINION! EVERYONE has a RIGHT TO THEIR OPINION.

Jackass statements like that show how liberals have no respect for the First Amendment.

As for that fool and his whore in office, I wouldn't piss of them if they were on fire.

Dominion servers and democRAT poll "watchers" determined the 11/2020 election and EVERYONE KNOWS IT.

These "Confederate officers" are just as American as you and me.

Screw your PC BS!

- Fort Bragg: Fort James M. Gavin - Gavin commanded the 505 PIR, the 82d Airborne Division, and XVIII Airborne Corps (the latter the two largest formations on post); he jumped into Sicily, Normandy, and Market Garden; be began the racial integration of the military by incorporating the "Triple Nickel" 555th Parachute Infantry into the 82d prior to the order to integrate; and served as ambassador to France.
- Fort Rucker - Fort Ed Freeman - "Too Tall" Freeman received the Medal of Honor for repeatedly flying in to support troops at the Landing Zone X-Ray in the Ia Drang Valley, Republic of Vietnam. Appropriate for our "helicopter base."
- Fort Benning: Fort George C. Marshall - the man who planned our victory in WW2 laid the groundwork for all success in both the European and Asian theaters. Appropriate to name the "groundwork" base for Infantry and Armor after Marshall, who also served as Secretary of State and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
- Fort Hood: Fort George S. Patton Jr. - appropriate for our top tank commander to be the namesake of our primary tank base.

How's that for a start?

SFC Jeff Duncan - Jeff, that is a false interpretation of the history. Although many individual Confederates may not have owned slaves, they were fighting to preserve the institution of slavery. It is repeatedly mentioned in every document establishing the Confederacy. Regardless, it does not change the fact that our black servicemen and servicewomen should have to serve at bases named after slavers and traitors.

So every male in the South whether they fought or not was a slaver and a traitor? I can give you a perspective from my family, they were against succession and chose to not fight until Union troops came unto their property raping and pillaging and murdering and were forced to fight for their land and life. Then on my fathers side which was Native American that suffered 100x more persecution then any slave you don’t hear any of this wokeness coming from them because as my Grandfather taught me that there are things that happen in time and time moves always forward and if you choose to destroy the past offensives then you never existed! He was a old man still living on a reservation with his only schooling being from the Indian school but he was a lot wiser then a lot of fools today. My father being Native American chose to serve the country that persecuted his ancestors and I never heard a word of victimhood in the home I was raised in,I then chose to serve my country as well having listened to the history of my ancestors and the atrocities that were committed against them but I have no malice in my heart nor feel I should get any special treatment. So I don’t understand the knee jerk to change history or want to destroy our history. If slavery is to be the motive opporoindi then the coliseum in Rome should be destroyed and the pyramids in Egypt should be destroyed hell destroy the world because there is not a race on the face of this earth who have not been enslaved. So if we’re going to condemn anything to do with slavery then let’s administer it across the board and we should be attacking China this very day as there are over 2 million slaves in that country this very day.

"What about's" is not an answer to the issue: the names of the bases should be changed. Those Confederates names were chosen, like the statutes and school names, to suppress black voters, school attendance, and participation in government. It is long past time to rename those posts. By the way, we've renamed posts in the past:
- Camp Mackall, NC (a subsidiary of Bragg) was originally Camp Hoffman, but renamed after an airborne trooper who was killed from wounds in Operation Torch;
- Fort Belvior, VA, was originally Camp Humphries;
- Camp Pendleton, VA was originally named after the governors of VirginiaCamp Trinkle (1922-1926), then Camp Byrd (1926-1930, then Camp Pollard (1930-1934), then Camp Peery (1934-1938), then Camp Price (1938-1942), and later named after Lee's chief of artillery;
- Fort Rucker was originally the Ozark Triangular Division Camp;
- Camp Forrest, TN (one of the largest WWII bases, and named after Nathan Bedford Forrest) became Arnold Air Force Base
Not to mention the many deactivated forts and posts that have gone by the wayside over the years.

The post names will change, and become something that all Americans can be proud of and places where they can serve without reminders of oppression.

my Rebuttal was not what about’s, it was speaking to the fact that if you lived in the South during the Civil war you were considered a slaver and a traitor. Slavery was a minor issue in the causation of the Civil war and if you’d read Lincoln’s papers you’d realize that. Yes slaves were mentioned in the documents of succession but once again it was not the key subject. The whole thing started with one party controlling most of the power and trying to impose taxes on Southern States and not on Northern States. I say one more time look at what is going on this very day in our Federal Government and it’s almost identical. The point I was making about slavery throughout the world and time is this. Slavery should have never been used throughout time but it happened all over the world and to just about every race but if you’re going to change history for one group of individuals then you better be willing to change it for others. If this was truly about slavery there could be a honest discussion but this is political pontificating by the Democratic Party. If this country was so serious about slavery then why are we not calling out China for its modern day slavery, why are the products made by slave labor still allowed to be imported into this great nation. Stop with the wokeness and the oh woes me. We have enough trouble in the present lt alone bringing up the past from hundreds of years ago. There were a lot of things that could have been done better when this nation formed but these things happened, just like my mother’s family in North Carolina. Their county voted against succession but it didn’t matter during and after the war. They were put off their land because they were white and lived in the South,you don’t here about how horribly treated were the common man, woman and child by the Union troops. The rape and pillage that was suffered by Southern Blacks and Whites. There is no convenient truth only the real truth. These bases should be let alone and let’s worry about the real issues going on in this country!!

This is getting ridiculous. Why does FT Belvoir need to be renamed? It was named Belvoir because, at the time, the French word meant "beautiful to see." Lord Fairfax built a mansion on a high bluff overlooking the Potomac, and named the mansion accordingly. Today's translation is "lookout."

To my knowledge there was never a General Belvoir, General Lookout, or General Beautiful to See.

The name was taken from the former plantation, that is why some want to change the name.

Fort Belvior is not on the list, but is up for reconsideration. It was originally named Camp Humphreys, after Union General Andrew Humphreys, who was chief engineer for McClellan, and renamed in the 1930s after the plantation. Since it's now an intelligence center, there is thought that it might be used to appropriately honor an intelligence Soldier. Examples include Medal of Honor troops CPT Rocky Versace (SF intel advisor to the SVN forces), MSG Roy Benavidez (SF working intel with MACV SOG), 1LT George Sisler (MI officer with MACV-SOG), and CSM Bennie Adkins (SF intel sergeant), all of whom would be deserving.

For better or worse each of these people served their state, to say otherwise is like saying that everything that happened while serving was a representation of ourselves.
