Honesty why not splitter naming equally between Union, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color)and Confederate. This why one group another isn't being elevated and the reality of America history is being honored.

Thanks for pointing out I forgot to mention a female in my example. It was an honest oversight.

Leave them. Get over whatever hate you have. History is in the books, you can't change it.

As an interesting aside, I served onboard a nuclear missile submarine - our key deterrent weapon. I retired in 1993 and interestingly enough, there were two sister shapes with interesting names:
USS Robert E Lee
USS Stonewall Jackson
USS Robert E Lee
USS Stonewall Jackson

Good afternoon SSG Carlos Madden. Excellent post. Thank you for sharing this Brother Carlos. I don't think this is a great concept. I'm sure there are other deserving individuals that should be honored. :->

Name them after the Native American Indian tribes that were dominant in the area where the base is located.

I had someone tell me Confederate officers were committing treason when they fought. I always try to remember that, at the time, they were fighting for what they believed was right and honorable. Not all were fighting for (or against) slavery; state rights were also in question. I don't like the changes based on that premise (i.e., officers were treasonous), but I do understand if people of color are upset.

It’s not erasing history—it’s correcting a mistake. It says individuals that took an oath of allegiance to the United States and then took up arms against it should not be honored by naming an important facility after them. I am a member of the VFW and VVA and something I like that both organizations do: they start every meeting with the pledge of allegiance It reminds me of what is is the essence of what our country is and should be the standard by which we judge ourselves and our actions. It says we are one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for ALL. It is not justice for all to have black soldiers serve on bases named after people who fought to deny them liberty. I say this as a southern who’s ancestors to a man fought for the losing side and I am not a wild eyed lefty. I am just a believer in the fundamental principle on which our country was founded “ all men are created equal” and our civil war was fought to save that ideal as Lincoln said so eloquently in his Gettysburg Address.
