Doesn't matter if you agree with this move or not - it's been directed and it's happening. What are your suggestions for renaming the following bases?

- Fort Bragg
- Fort Rucker
- Fort Benning
- Fort Gordon
- Fort Hood
- Fort Polk
- Fort A.P. Hill
- Fort Belvoir
- Fort Lee
- Fort Pickett

IMO, names should bubble up from the demographics of the country that represent military people.

Fort Cadet Heel Spurs or Fort Trump or Fort Hegseth. How do you like Fort Bondi & Fort Noem since everyone else is just naming men.

What’s wrong with Confederate Officers…didn’t they attend West Point no different than Union Officers….plus I think they were more tenacious in the trenches!!!!!!!

Ft. Liberty? Are you serious? I know bases are typically named after officers, especially general-rank officers. However Ft. Bragg has a rich and extensive history of exceptional soldiers and NCOs, many who are/were MoH recipients who IMHO are no less deserving of said honor. How about Ft. Benevidez, or Ft. Howard?

In some cases (Bragg, Pickett, Hood, along with some on the Northern side) the generals hardly met the criteria for being a good military commander much less a great one...so using those to name a military installation made no sense from the very beginning. Why did anyone feel the need to honor a man who got so many of his men killed in losing battle after battle and even turned a winning fight into a loss on multiple occasions??? That is utter nonsense. The ONLY thing that makes sense is that this was done intentionally to promote either a sense of unity or sheer Southern Pride...which unfortunately does smell a bit like racist sentiment in many if not most circles (argue if you want but it is true). As for UNITY half a century after the Civil War seems a long time to wait to try and establish unity through such a measure, so that leaves me with SOUTHERN PRIDE...I am a proud TEXAN so I absolutely "get it"...but unless you are from the South you probably don't...and today many Southerners don't. I've known men who flew the Confederate Battle Flag proudly and I am absolutely certain they didn't have a racist bone in their bodies...but many others didn't know them and didn't see it that way and probably never will...that is wrong...but I think also pushing your symbol and in this case names that are synonymous with a cause that, let's be honest, fought to maintain a way of life for all practical purposes founded on slavery of other human beings is questionable at best. Many of the ideals of the Antebellum South were highly commendable...but the glaring truth is that choosing to profit off other people's abject misery negates that in a terrible way. The fact that the South was completely mismatched economically, militarily, and especially industrially and yet they carried the war in early stages and even brought it to a tipping point...well militarily speaking they were awe inspiring...a fight against great odds...what speaks more to the American Spirit? But this was American vs American and only some Americans see that fight as "inspiring" due to the odds... others just see outlaw rebels who deserved to be put down hard...and hard it was. Sherman was a brute and a racist himself...why name a tank after such a man? But he did achieve great things militarily...many of the generals we've names installations for did not and again that begs the question why? If we can change a wrong then CHANGE IT. However I do not see all Confederate Generals in the same light...militarily speaking some were absolutely superior commanders and as such certainly do deserve remembrance by our military...but the cause they fought for cannot simply be overlooked either.

So.....I am for the Northern army. I do not agree with slavery. That said, history is history good or bad. Good leaders are good leaders rewriting history allows us to repeat the same mistakes. No do not rename bases, just enlighten folks the facts. I think the Clintons were bad. But I do not intend to erase them.

History shows that the ENTIRE USA needed someone to pick the cotton in the South and plant the food as cheaply as possible. Guess where these plantation owners went? Every White/Caucasian person living below the Mason/Dixie line will tell you that they gave those workers FREE housing, Free Food, Free educations, etc., BUT they forgot to pay them wages.

Change all the names to be like the Navy. Fort Watertown instead of Ft Drum, Ft Fayetteville instead of Ft Liberty. This will prevent anyone in the future from being offended because they do not like something in the namesake of a base.

NAME THEM FOR AMERICAN MILITARY HEROES RELATIVE TO OUR TIME, FROM VIETNAM FORWARD. WOULD BE NICE THAT CONTEMPORARY PERSONS HAVE THEIR NAMES MEMORIALIZED. HOW ABOUT CHRIS KYLE?
