As former military who spent time at several of those above mentioned bases I just asking who are we trying to placate by renaming them. They are a part of our history as a nation and try to erase their name from such sites will never change that, nor should we ever forget the civil war and the sacrifice that Americans made on both sides.

It’s quite fascinating how many patriots support keeping the names of people who led open and violent art rebellion against the constitution of the United States
Whitewashing history? No one saying not to teach it in schools. But to honor active duty military service installations with the last names of the people who caused over 1 million US casualties, I think you need to check where your priorities are.
And no, I’m not a Democrat. No, I’m not from the north. Yes I am White, yes, I’m male and no I didn’t vote for Joe Biden.
How about we honor heroes who fought for the United States of America? Just a thought.

I have always wondered if the Union won the war why were DOD I statallations names after the loosing opponent? If the confederate Soldier's had won, we would still have slavery. Free labor. The south was making $$$$$$$$$ from slavery. Slaves were free labor just imagine how much money was saved $$$$$$$$ by having slavery. Free labor wow. Follow the $$$$$$ and you will get the answer.

Since the War for Southern Independence WASN'T about slavery, and since the United States of America was a "confederacy" of sovereign states between 1776 to 1789, and since "wokeism" is now in vogue, I submit the following names: Fort Rainbow, Fort Pride, Fort Elton, Fort Hudson, Fort Karine Jean-Pierre, Fort Lesbian, Fort Gay, Fort Bi, Fort Trans, Fort Queer, Fort Bendover, Fort Anal, Fort STD. These names might satisfy the pegging, queening, scissoring, figging, felching, fisting and pearl necklace loving politicos in charge of these changes.

Aside from the false premise that the War for Southern Independence was about slavery, and aside from the fact that the United States was itself a "confederacy" of independent states from 1776 to 1789, and considering the slow destruction of the military with wokeism, I have a few suggestions for new Fort names: Fort Pride, Fort Elton, Fort Gay, Fort Lesbian, Fort Queer, Fort Bi, Fort Trans, Fort Anal, Fort Bendover, Fort Sodomy, Fort Rainbow, Fort STD. These should meet the approval of those in charge of changing the names.

It might be really late to the conversation but what the DoD has done is fine with me. I'm from a former Confederate state (Texas) and fine with the renaming of these posts. I do believe that they could have found someone significant enough to rename Fort Bragg after. "Fort Liberty" is just... well it leaves a lot on the table, especially when you look at the other names (i.e. "Fort Moore" "Fort Novosel" and "Fort Eisenhower") that found badasses to honor.
Those on here that are saying "You can't erase/rewrite history." Actually, you can. It is called "historical revisionism" and it is something that happens constantly as history is better understood. It is just finally correcting the problem the American South has with Confederate history.

Leave the base names alone we are not the Soviet Union and shouldn't change Bases and Building names just because they fell out of political favor. Do we want to leave a legacy like Stalin and purge anyone and everyone we don't agree with that came before US. Aim High they're riding Clydesdales.
