Look it should be based on the individual suffering- there is NEVER a 1 size fits all for mental problems!

The three evidence based therapies that the Department of Veterans Affairs utilizes: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Prolonged Exposure (PE). Why I chose, Cognitive processing therapy for treating PTSD? Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is an empirically supported treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). “CPT is effective in treating combat-related PTSD among Veterans and active-duty service members,” Usually, the therapist uses Socratic questioning to enable the victim to question his or her thinking about a certain event to enable them to overcome the trauma. The understanding of one’s thoughts and how they particularly drive one’s emotions and reactions is essential to assisting in the post traumatic growth. This treatment can be administered both at an individual as well as group level.

Personally, a group setting would be the ideal method. The ability for others to share with on another and rely on others as the begin to deal with their situation and will assist in personal growth.

I've been at this PTSD therapy for quite a while now, not as a therapist but instead as one receiving the therapy. I've been through the CPT and have also been through Imaginal Exposure. I found the imaginal exposure to be more effective for me.
However, I also believe the effectiveness of the therapy has to do with the effectiveness of the therapist. Some VA therapists are not as empathic as others, you might even say that they are simply putting in their time. Fortunately, mine was one who had great empathy for my PTSD and what it was doing to me.

There is no blanket most effective treatment. Different people have different triggers and different responses that they have to learn to recognize, control and cope with.
