My enlistment was a decision I made to learn a skill and serve. Opportunities came with unexpected results . I was fortunate to serve on a submarine involved in unique operations that had challenges and responsibilities that mold the future, how to proceed in life after the military. Skills that continue in decision making and experience throughout life.

Pretty much everything. I joined at 17 and, although I thought I knew everything about everything, I actually knew very little about anything, including myself!

That there is literally nothing I can't accomplish if I am willing to devote myself to it. Basic Training, PME, overseas assignments, college...no matter whether physical or intellectual, if I'm willing to give it my all, I can accomplish it.

I learned that not everyone was my friend, but that I could handle that, and whatever else was thrown at me.

Went in the Corps as a kid and had no real idea about discipline or conformity. Now 50 some years later it is still how I live. A time and place for everything and so on.
