When I was in we had snail mail and if we were lucky and you had a radio you could listen to AFN. Some of the places I deployed to didn't have that. No computers, no internet and no cell/smart phones.

Sorry, but I watched the entire series of No Man's Land. I am not going to go into details, but I was away from my wife and those movies HELPED OUT A LOT!

For me I liked escaping thru laughter. I ended up in 2004 watching the three American Pie movies numerous times. Stupid humor I know but it was an escape. I'd laugh so hard at time I'd wake my SGM and he'd have to ask me to please be quiet as it was usually later in the night. I do remember another time we had a group of about 8 of us, MSG 's mom sent a CD of John Wayne's the Green Berets. We watched it until the lady was singing and the movie ended abruptly. We had to wait a month before the MSG's Mom made sure she copied the entire movie to CD. When we finally had it we had to start at the bieginning of course (even though we'd all seen it numerous times before Iraq).

I watched about 22 film noir DVDs and those fancy-schmancy Janus art-house DVDs. Have no idea of how the Afghans got them to a COP in RC(E).

Watched this in the prison complex in 2004-05. Much respect for the movie dealers; they even had Star Wars that had been released the day before worldwide, but there it was in Abu Ghraib the next day for $5 a copy. He had made 300 copies, and sold it out in about 2 hours!
