I'm thinking about volunteering for Recruiting Detail. Is it honestly as bad as some people make it out to be? What were the cons in your tour and some of the pros?

I think it will honestly depend on the individuals you work for. I had an awesome station commander who looked out for us and made work enjoyable. I just reclassed to return to recruiting. The 11B life was just not for me anymore after 11 years. I enjoyed going home to my family every night on recruiting. It has it's perks but everyone's experiences can differ. Here to answer any questions if you have them.

This is great advice thank you! I was worried about submitting a packet but now I'm not. Definitely hoping to get in. As far as requirements how many contracts are expected to meet mission a month? Or is that station dependent?

SSG (Join to see) Definitely station dependent. There are large and small stations. Some stations barely leave the office because people walk in ready to join constantly. Some stations have 12 recruiters and are expected to get 16-20 contracts a month. It varies greatly. If you do your best and show your efforts you'll be fine. Just try to not roll a donut (zero contracts) for the month lol.

SSG (Join to see) what area did you recruit in and I'm sure metropolitan areas are better for prospects than say a rural area?

SSG (Join to see) I recruited in South Florida, and am returning to Central FL in a few months. Some do the rural areas were actually out best markets. For example, Okeechobee HS was one of our best schools for enlisting HS seniors.

It really depends enormously on where you are. That's all I can really say.

Half the grey hairs on my head sprouted when I did recruiting. I was managing somewhere around a dozen recruits, as a PFC in my state guard unit. Getting them to drill, linking up with RSP from other units... I was putting in dozens of hours every week (that I was not paid for) trying to chase high schoolers and college students down and get them to fill out paperwork. It was good for my career though, I was awarded the WNY Soldier of the Year Award, and the NYS Recruiting medal with a device. Is is stressful? You bet. But a short (successful) stint doing it looks very good in both the civilian and military realms.

Join nearly 2 million former and current members of the US military, just like you.
