What were your favorite and least favorite assignments in the military?

I spent three years in Germany (which I loved) 81-84, and although I did not have the chance to go to SE Asia, I wish I could have. I have a lot of friends in the Philippines.

My favorite assignments was Germany and Korea and my least favorite was being stateside! Overseas assignments are the best! That's why I'm trying to get a civilian assignment in Europe!

Favorite-Germany in the mid 80s
Least- Fort Riley in the 1st half of 00s right after 9/11.
I would go back in right now if I could go to Germany for 4 more years, loved it beyond words, some of the best times of my military career spent there.

Most favorite: Elmendorf AFB AK
Least favorite: Columbus AFB MS
Alaska was a great place to be stationed. 1981-1985. Unit flying mission was good mix of real mission support and training. Best flying environment ever and anywhere Good schools for the kids. Great family recreation. Promoted to Lt Col.
Mississippi was none of those. 1974-1977. Mission was mundane at best. USAF environment and leadership were toxic. Post Vietnam drawdown. Schools for kids were rock bottom.
