Hmmm. Thought that had been determined by the Constitution and it’s associated amendments, long ago.

This was the same place the Declaration of Independence was signed. The Constitution was written during the Philadelphia Convention—now known as the Constitutional Convention—which convened from May 25 to September 17, 1787. It was signed on September 17, 1787.

Not an all inclusive list, but the following come to mind.
Government should do those things which we cannot do individually:
_Defend the nation
_Build coordinated infrastructure
_Establish communal contracts of behavior and conduct
_Protect the rights of the few from the passions of the many
_Ensure the integrity of commercial transactions.
Government should not:
_Ensure equality of outcome
_Protect us from ourselves and our own bad decisions

Why would you ask? Remember the Constitution that you swore to preserve, protect, and defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic? Read it. Need help? Hillsdale College has excellent free courses on line... https://online.hillsdale.edu/login

CPT Jack Durish The reason I ask because its interesting to me despite what the Constitution and the Bill of Rights state some folks have away of interpreting things as they wish to which is mostly favorable to them. I am just curious to what others have to say. I am not here to debate it because despite what you may think Jack I have read it numerous times. Thanks for your share.
Peace!

SSgt Harvey "Skip" Porter - I'm glad to hear that. Still, this is an open discussion thread and others who may not have read the Constitution or who have trouble understanding it will use the info we share. Also, I am not here to debate the Constitution. If you have followed me in other discussions, you would know that I am, like Justice Scalia, an originalist. I support the Constitution for what it says in plain language and reject all legal interpretations and anything that it doesn't say.

On Saturday, September 8, 1787, the Committee on Style was established at the Constitutional Convention. It consisted of Alexander Hamilton (NY), William Johnson (CT), Rufus King (MA), James Madison (VA), and Governor Morris (PA). They were the last committee to work on the draft that would later be approved by the Convention and ratified by the states. Their goal was to restate the various articles and provisions of the Constitution in plain...
