When America’s veterans face challenges, DAV is there. Learn how DAV supports veterans so they can get the benefits they’ve earned & deserve.

I went to the DAV (I’m a life member) and I felt like they were very condescending when I asked to help get a reevaluation of my disabilities.

Please Please Tell Me how I can get my Retirement? I tried to retire 2 times while in the Army. I transferred from the Air Force. The Army Co NCO could not calculate my service time correctly. Each time it went to Battalion it would be returned. I was injured in combative training and the Battalion Medboard me out due to not being able to leave for the next Deployment. I was not asked if I want to Retrain or Retire. I was Eligible. The Battalion left before I was separated from the Army. The Sgt Major and my First Sgt didn't like me because I was an Air Force person now Army. I was coded Not Eligible to receive Retirement due to the Force Reduction order that was used to end my career. I have been told by MyPay that I should be getting it except that the code must be fixed. I have gone thru the Army who directed me to Ft Stewart, GA I tried them and was told that the Force Reduction order was used. I have all Honorable service and have a total of 24 years mixed Service Time. I was given the order they used by my Co Commander to try to get this corrected. I do not know what steps I can take to try to get this fixed.
MSgt Christa Duker. Direct me to some one who can actually help please

Veterans with service connected disabilities should not be restricted from health care based on drive time to the VA Hospital. The new mission act will make it law. Why
------
Senator Tester, "Make existing wait time and drive time standards law;"

Jun 2019, 'Drive time to a specific VA medical facility
Thirty-minute average drive time for primary care, mental health, and noninstitutional extended care services.
Sixty-minute average drive time for specialty care.

Note: Drive times are calculated using mapping software.

After 20+ years in the Air Force, I had multiple physical and mental issues that kept my life from being what it should have been. After applying for benefits on my own, I was rewarded with a 0-5% rating in 5 areas and an overall rating of 10%. It really did not address my biggest concerns/problems.
A friend and coworker at the VA recommended that I talk to someone at the DAV service center in Lakewood, CO. Then director John Price worked with me to resubmit my application for benefits. That resulted in a rating increase that properly addressed my issues.
Moving forward to 2023, I again reached out to the DAV office because physical issues are now drastically limiting my abilities to walk or get a good night's sleep. I was informed last month that my rating increase has been approved!
Thank you again to the DAV service center in Lakewood, CO!
