When are military uniforms allowed at political rallies? I took this picture off my TV today at a Trump town hall meeting.

I saw this live, and was struck at the time by it. It is no accident that this officer was seated in Trump's background. It sends a message... which is precisely why it is expressly forbidden to attend political events in uniform.

SFC (Join to see) - Perhaps. Looks like it is worn correctly, at least. Hard to make it out, but looks like LTC Infantry shoulder boards. If he's legit, he's most likely National Guard then.

The message it sends is, "I'm wearing a uniform and would like to hear what this guy has to say." By the reg 670-1 he is not "in furtherance of" or "participating in" the rally by listening to it.

OK, I have question was he there at the time any other person or candidate was speaking, or did they just happen to get his picture when Trump was speaking? It was after all a town hall meeting.

CPO Michael Butler - It was a Fox News town hall hosted by Sean Hannity. No other candidates were present.

SFC (Join to see) - I think what the Chief was saying was those who live in glass houses should not cast stones.

I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I'm pretty sure the Chief was saying "Fuck you, I'm a CW4. O5s and below have no idea if they are supposed to salute me or not. I'm going to say and do what I want and nobody is going to know who is responsible, if anybody, for reprimanding me." Then he disappears, not to be seen for months until it is beneficial to him. No disrespect intended at all Chief. Believe it or not, I have the utmost respect for warrants, but tell me I'm lying. Lol

SPC Wesley LeBlanc - Your comments lead me to believe that you are under the misconception that Warrant Officers are not responsible professionals and can do whatever they want whenever they want. I am currently deployed in Afghanistan. I have a wife at home and a 3 month old son I haven't met yet. Tell me, SPC, do you really think I'm doing whatever I want whenever I want? If you, in fact, do have the utmost respect for Warrant Officers, I recommend you sit down, shut up, raise your hand, and wait to be called on while the adults have a conversation.

There is no difference between the AR 670-1 for the regular army and the guard or reserve. One reg stands for all

There has been a number of people in uniform at his rally's. I say "people" because of the immense, blatant misconconduct called stolen valor. Tons of dirtbags getting called out on their crap by un-uniformed personnel at trump rally's. There have been some videos out on the inter webs of soldiers confronting these knuckleheads too. Surprisingly they disappear 2-3 days later.

I thought President Obama changed the rule at the same time he signed into law that allows gays in the military. I recall seeing a lot folks marching in LBGT parades after the law was passed.

I got this for ya chief. The point is that uniforms weren't authorized at gay rights rallies either. But none of the. P C media said a thing about that.

I've seen a few photo of guys kissing each other while both are in uniform. Anyone get in trouble over that? They weren't at "gay rallies" either. Made good propaganda for the gay lobbyists though.

It isn't allowed. Unless of course you are being forced to stand behind a POS commander in chief for a campaign photo op.

Well, this is not a political rally. It's a Town Hall meeting which "is an American term given to an informal public meeting, function, or event derived from the traditional town meetings of New England. Typically open to everybody in a town community and held at the local municipal building, attendees generally present ideas, voice their opinions, ask questions of the public figures, elected officials, or political candidates at the town hall." Of course, with current technology and media it has taken some different forms. However, these events are technically not in support of a candidate. Now if we saw this guy at a Trump rally, then he would be in deep scheisse. But this is pretty much a simple political meeting.

Sorry but no. If he is reported he will face charges. He is not a boot he is a officer who should know better.

If he is sitting on the stage or behind the candidate with his staff that would be perceived as supporting said candidate.

MSG (Join to see) - Probably because he isn't a coward and wants to make an informed decision on who his next boss is.

an informed decision does'nt require a uniform, but if the pao is good with it, then i'm ok with it, i still think caution is the the better part of valor

PO1 Robert Teague There have been some great comments as to the depth of poo that the officer would find himself in should he be identified. I am going to take a different approach to this. Looking at the picture, this individual is relatively close to Mr. Trump, and in a position where common sense would have said "I am going to be on film." So what would be the ramifications if this person is a paid actor, whether former service or not, who was paid to stand in the background, in a uniform, and look like he is in support of Trump? It would give Donald the appearance of a military endorsement without having to come right out and say it (since we all know the military will officially remain neutral in political elections). I am not saying that is the case, but it would be interesting. I definitely would not put it past any of the front runners to use paid lackeys to make them look more appealing to voters. Military in uniform is almost as good as a baby with his two job having single mother.
Agree fully with all who have stated that this is a big no no, and should this individual be an officer, and identified, he will have no ass left to hold him in a chair.

MSG (Join to see) - No, he would simply be an actor plying his craft. It would be no different than Nicholas Cage putting on the Uniform in Con Air.

good point, but this isn't a movie i dont know what the the legalize are, but i would suspect that using an actor to portray a millitary support is not right
