Straight up bull! Just shows the average service member how your leaders really feel about you. Youre just another number that can easily be replaced. They didnt ask anyone how they felt and Im sure they could give a shit less about how you feel
Many times in the military you do not get an individual 'say'...you'll simply execute the order/command.
In this case, I believe Soldiers would sacrifice pay raises to keep other benefits...in this downsizing environment, we've got to embrace a more 'give and take' attitude.

MSG Quick, at risk of starting a war of words with many here, you are absolutely correct. When I retired in 2006, I left what was (at the time) a very stable financial situation where we would count on annual COLA increases (and then some in many cases) and was confident that the same would hold true for my military retirement. We (retirees) are now facing the same pay challenges as active duty with proposed changes in COLA and increasing medical costs (enrollment fees and co pays). I consider myself fortunate to have a good civilian job; but those same issues are alive and well here too. I am a county employee and we received a 1.5% COLA increase last year (which was the first pay increase since 2008 for us) and our STEPs have been frozen since 2008 as well (and it appears that they will be eliminated completely in the near future).
I'm not complaining, I still consider myself fortunate to have had a successful military career and to have a good second career on the outside; just stating that we must face the economic reality of the times in which we are currently living; painful as it may be.
I said it the day I raised my hand and enlisted in the Army, thus allowing congress to decide my pay and retirement benefits among other things
