The sooner you reenlist or at least have a good sit down with your career counselor the better. Options and duty stations go quick. He/She can guide you properly.

Just don't go to Alaska in winter or Folk Polk in the Summer. Hawaii and Germany any time, and Korea, never!

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - You don't have to worry about Adak, it isn't even a military post anymore.

I really am not sure when it is the best time to reenlist Alexei. I always thought it was at or near the end of your current enlistment. Sorry.

It appears you're in the Army, but on the Marine side, earlier in the FY was always better. More choices were available, and the timing could be adjusted, but the longer you waited the fewer choices you had. Most of my PCS's coincided with my unit's deployment schedule, so that will dictate a lot as well. The two major exceptions to this were B-Billet tours (DI, Recruiter, MSG) and HotFills. HotFills being "we need someone in this position NOW."

"PCS Season" is typically May-August, as many families will want to transfer during the summer for the kids in school. If you don't have that requirement, or can work around it, things tend to be easier for you in assignments.
