When politicians visit RP, do they just submit prepared answers to our questions or engage in a back and forth discussion?

I missed the 1pm time with Senator Cruz, and was reading the questions thread to see his answers. It seems like he gave an answer to several questions, but I didn't see any responses to follow ups by RP members. When politicians show up, are they engaging in a live discussion or simply posting preprepared answers to questions provided to them ahead of time?

he was probably trying his best to genuinely answer as many members' questions as he could, versus only answering a few and then going back and forth on those specific answers. my preference is this way -- to see as many members as possible enjoy getting their questions answered.

But my question pertains to did he get the questions ahead of time, come into the RP office, and simply spend his time copy and pasting his answers into the thread, or was he actually there reading responses to his answers and reacting to them. If it is the former only, then there really isn't much point to anyone planning on being on the site at the designated time. It could as easily been done by the senator from anywhere. When you bill someone as being here to answer your questions, it sort of comes across as an interactive process.
I haven't double checked every question, so maybe he did that with some members. But all the ones I saw just had a single post with his answer and no interaction.

I also noticed that as well. The responses looked like talking points from the campaign spokesperson. Didn't look like politicians were actively engaged considering took forever to address questions. They're not taking us Veterans serious.
