Everyone of those idiots should be thrown in the brig and then discharged with a BCD. We don't need that from fellow service members.

If you are to protect the sanctity of that which you hold dear, it behooves you to do so with the utmost integrity. You MUST be absolutely positive in your assessment of guilt, or run the risk of becoming that which you profess to despise. So before you dispense righteous wrath, make sure you are prepared to offer abject apologies and to atone for your actions if you're proven wrong....

They are a disgrace to the uniform, this man was berated for their amusement, an article 15 shouldn't be enough when they are caught

I know many vets who have just began to come out with their VietNam experience. It's been a long road for these vets. To have some idiots pull this is no different I feel than disrespecting a superior officer. Somebody knows who these idiots are. I won't consider them as Marines. I know many Marines and none, I repeat, none whether active, served, or retired would not do something like this. If I was active in the Corps, I would make it a point to find these guys and set the record straight!

MAJ Aaron Bien Perfectly said. We don't know the history of this solider. This may have been his first "outing" in a uniform. We all know how VN vets were received. They paid as much of a toll at home as in country .

Stolen valor is a tricky thing. You better make sure you are certain. I never served. I ruptured disk in lower back doing, of all things, reverse military presses, but still have people , young guys, think I am "ashamed to admit I served" when I am like "No, I wish I had, but my back would not let me pass the physical, I just cut my hair short, OK?" These outers need to be very careful.

Ryan Grimes Never be ashamed to say you served, or got injured in training... whatever. At basic, a kid fell down a flight of stairs running in from the rain, broke his back. To me, he is as veteran as anyone... because like you he volunteered.

SPC George Rudenko - No, that is the thing. I did not serve. I was going back and forth with the recruiters to sign up, when I did the injury, but, that unfortunately is what what happened, before I signed. But it was some drunk young serviceman, that called me on this, and I am like, DUDE, I cant serve, unless we are invaded. And that is how I see some of these very your Stolen Valor "protectors". He wanted to fight me. I am like, WTF.

I'm sorry, but Active Duty has no place policing Stolen Valor. Ladies and Gentlemen, do your service with honor and professionalism. Leave the policing to the proper authorities.
It hurts enough when you're a veteran who's half ashamed because he got out early and didn't get to serve his full time, but my heart goes out to the old fellow.

One of my best friends is a retired Marine SGM and I'm pretty sure he would love to get his hand on these punks. How there you disrespect a Vet without proof. Shame on these individuals, won't disgrace the word soldier with them. Jack don't let these so call Marines get the best of you. I salute you for your service and sacrifices.

This whole trend of shame-gaming people blew up with the rise of social media. I credit a little bit of blame to websites like This Ain't Hell for making a fucking sport out of hunting people down. Not saying those guys or sites like them engage in friendly fire, but the rabid frenzy of zealots that draw inspiration from sites like it can't be denied.

SSG Tim Everett True. Look at me look at me... I can insult someone... if social media didn't exist... stuff like that wouldn't matter... cause the perps wouldn't get recognition.

I'm just waiting for the day this happens to me because I'm going OFF! And I'm going to post it to shame them. You don't know when everyone served or what the uniform rules are for every branch. Stay in your lane and leave people alone. If it's something blatantly obvious that is wrong with their uniform, you can question and correct them without bringing dishonor to yourself.

My take is this, since the dawn of the military there have been guys (and gals) who have lied about being in the service, or have added to their record. I am sure there was some Roman dude, sitting in a brothel, telling stories about serving with Caesar in Gaul. Those will always be, no matter what is said or done. The ones I have issue with, are the ones who put on the uniform, or make up some bogus 214 to either sham someone outta money, or even worse, collecting benefits that some injured SM is standing line waiting for. The Stolen Valor Act is violated when someone uses the story to get money or personal gain, and more or less lying is protected by the 1st amendment under the freedom of speech deal. Yeah, it sucks, but liars have feelings too, eh.. I've worked with Guardian of Valor/Stolen Valor FB page for a few years now, the ones we zero in are the ones who use the lie to rip people off, or have used their fake service to gain a high paying job or position of importance, yet people still send us messages detailing how they "seen a guy wearing ACU pants" and think that is Stolen Valor. No doubt about it, the morons who antagonized this guy were way in the wrong, and unless they had direct proof (i.e. military record, which can be obtained thru the FOIA) then they should have just left this guy alone....
